Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

I'm going to build an enclosure while I'm waiting for my mk3 to be shipped. Prusa hasn't posted the overall dimensions of the machine. Do you think it's safe to assume it will be dimensionally the same as the Prusa mk2s? I need something to use as a guide because I'd hate to build it and not fit.

Re: Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

A look on the official Prusa3D website solves the problem! 🙂

http://www.prusa3d.com/

"exterior dimensions 42 x 42 x 38 cm (16.5 x 16.5 x 15 inches)"

That does not solve the problem because those specs are for the mk2s not the mk3. Since the mk3 has an entire new y axis, I think it may make the machine slightly taller.

Not only that, but the PR dimensions only hold valid if you never actually plug the power cord in.

You must make extra clearance for it or figure out a way around it.

Re: Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

Can we expect the 3D design of the printer? Were they released for the earlier marks? I would like to make the enclosure (pre-made) too and design it around having as much of the electrical components outside. Will we know prior to release bolt size/patterns?

Might not be the right place on the forum, not sure. Really excited for my mk3!!

I watched an interview where Josef said that he releases the open source design after the product has shipped. That way clones don't hit the market first.

A very reasonable perspective, given the complete lack of respect China has for intellectual property.

We still don't have enough info to build an enclosure do we?
The dimensions may well be 42x42x38cm but does that take into account the full movement of the bed?

Well all Prusa designs are open source, so nobody is violating any intellectual property rights.

It would be pretty safe to assume the MK3 will have a nearly identical footprint to the MK2. The build volume is the same other than 10 more on the z. Any enclosure you build should have a few inches to spare all around the printer anyways. I would start building it, I have myself.

I've taken your advice. Enclosure now ready.
Won't fit the lights or heater till the printer arrives.

Re: Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

a few days ago I asked live chat about the "footprint" of the machine. I received the following numbers

printer is 45x45x50cm (17.71in x 17.71in x 19.68in). That still doesn't account for the cable attached to the print head which you do not want to block in any way else it might lead to early failure of the wires.

I'm going to wait until I have the machine up and working before I build my enclosure.

So many things to do and learn 🙂

Re: Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

How much extra space should I allow for the heatbed cable?

Re: Prusa i3 mk3 Overall Dimensions

Bump. Can we have a summarized version of a reasonable enclosure size posted here without more digging? This is one of the top search results for the question.
