My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

Koeln, Germany 12/05/2017 6:00 A.M. Departure Scan
Koeln, Germany 12/07/2017 2:01 A.M. We were unable to load the package on the plane as scheduled. / Delivery will be rescheduled.

I made my family disappear! I'm just going to stay in eating junk and watching rubbish. Maybe go out and buy some milk, eggs, and fabric softener.

Dang, you got bumped from the flight. I wonder if you get free tickets for future travel like you do when you personally get bumped. Maybe free shipping for a month? 😡

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

Same problem here, I received that message five times, my printer has been stuck in Koen Germany for six days now waiting to board a flight to the US. Reminds me of shipments coming out of China where they wait until the bin is full before they ship. Maybe UPS is waiting until they have enough packages to make a cargo plane flight to the US cost efficent. If that's the case, my MK3 MMU may end up being shipped and delivered with my printer.

I know a guy who works at Cologne's Airport's UPS hub - need to talk to him about certain black boxes

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

I've flown in and out of Cologne's airport a number of times, they sure don't treat airline passengers that way, unless they are flying stand-by waiting for an available seat like our printers are. Nice city, but I would not want to be a printer trying to get a flight out of there.

In a reddit thread there is a comment that Prusa is aware of the bottleneck in Koeln and is working with UPS to see what they can do.

Mine is in this mess also.. Maybe ship each printer in a box the size of a small cargo container?

What a reason to be delayed after months of anticipation.. crazy.

I cannot find the thread or comment you have referenced. It would be nice to know that they the issue is known and affects many people.

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

And I have paid GBP122 for UPS Express Saver Oceania for shipping to Australia, which I believe states 3 working days delivery (but there are T&C's that probably cover such delays as this?).

Titled: "Who else's MK3 is stuck in Germany?"

Quote in the thread:

"Here is a reply I received from Prusa overnight about it..
We register some other cases of the stuck delivery in Germany these days.
We contacted UPS, there is some delay with expediting the packages from Cologne based on the big amount of packages.
We are trying to find the was how to push UPS to deliver the packages as soon as possible.
Thank you for being patient with this delivery, we know about the delay and we are trying to find the way how to make this situation better."

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

My tracking now shows a Departure Scan, so it is possible the hold up problem has been resolved and the printer will soon depart the airport.

Darn, no 'departure scan' on mine. I saw your post and hoped mine was on the same plane. Mine's still "The package will be forwarded to a UPS facility in the destination city." from 18 hours ago.

Is this the big new $200 million dollar hub expansion UPS was bragging out bringing online. It was SUPPOSED to help speed things up. I guess that was a pipe dream.

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

It took them seven days to clear and release the printer, however the departure scan occurred at midnight their time. Doubtful that a cargo flight was scheduled that late, have to wait until tommorow for an update. Maybe all the US bound packages will be cleared by then.

Thank you for the link.

I did contact UPS to resolve the nature of the problem (and make sure it was not customs) and spoke with a member of their international team. They confirmed that the packages held through that hub are held up simply due to sheer volume. They said they are supposed to scan each package daily so even if you get a Departure Scan, it is not guaranteed that your package will leave as mine did not -- it may simply get an exception scan the following day if it is not loaded, and this cycle can repeat.

You know what though? It's the holiday shopping season. This is the time of year when I have to bump everything I order for work to priority overnight and it still takes 2-3 days. It sucks, but it's better than a customs hold, and at least I am still in the first 100. 😀

Nothing at this point can beat USPS returning the package of newborn baby items I sent to my brother a month ago to my doorstep today with a 'no such address' return notice. He and his wife are having their first child tomorrow. That bad boy got a ticket on Southwest Cargo tonight.

Good luck to all!

Re: My MK3 is Kevin McAllister!

My package did make it to the US this morning and has been cleared for delivery. However, the delivery pRobles are not over yet, this it what UPS emailed to me:

"Your package scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, 12/05/2017 may be delayed due to unexpected circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Exception Reason: A mechanical failure has caused a delay. We will update the delivery date as soon as possible.
Exception Resolution: Delivery will be rescheduled for Saturday."

Hopefully it's a mechanical problem with the transport and not with the package. It scares me to think that they may be picking printer parts up and putting them back into a damaged box. The old saying "When it rains it pours" and with 600 miles left to travel, the waiting and potential problems are not over yet.

Actually air cargo operations generally operate 24 hours. Because your cargo doesnt care what time its flight is and because of the global nature of the business. Also, airports are less busy, flight routes are less congested.
