Yes, I too think it is to difficult to get to the x-axis belt for adjustment and replacement.

My solution was to split the original part in two. The top part can be removed with the top two screws and the bottom part stay fixed with the three last screws. This way there will be less stress on the cables when working with the x belt.

It is a new model and has to be printed. I just put it on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2731484

It is still untested as I am still building the MK3... 😀 😉

Looks good...Yoink! 😀

I like the idea jltx but was thinking it would be nice to be able to put the cutout pieces back in to keep the printer looking as designed... My thoughts are to add bolt holes and a slot for a nut or put some kind of loop to zip tie the inserts in place after the belt is set... Any thoughts?

Re: If you don't like the new X back plate on MK3...

I'm thinking it would make sense to use a cover that does NOT cover the x belt so that it would be easier to maintain it. But I'm new to this. When my MK3 ships at the end of January, it will be my first 3D printer.

Is there any reason to use the cover supplied with the kit? Is covering the area it covers important or just an oversight?

It would be nice if someone from Prusa would comment on whether it is or is not ok to use a cover that doesn't cover the ends of the belt. And whether the "split cover" that area51 contributed is or is not ok.

I'd like some comments soon so I can take steps to get the alternate cover printed.

Thanks to the folks at Prusa for all they do.

Or at least one that provides easy access to the belt...

That's why I'm thinking about ways of splitting it so it can be put back to as designed just in case there's a reason it is like it is.

I'm guessing we won't hear anything. So I'm trying to think of different ways to split it and still get it back as originally designed.

I am using the JLTX version which leaves the belts accessible

the Mk2 has virtually the same belt set up and has always been exposed.

My Mk2 has run many hundreds of hours and the belt has never slipped

Edit: Nevermind, I went back and looked at the build instructions for the MK2s and see what you mean about the back cover. I'll likely still make the inserts but won't be so concerned about using them if they don't work out. Being that I don't have a 3D Printer I'll likely print one on Shapeways to have prior to building mine.

Dont worry about it. Prusa is not the type of company to void any warranty claims over such mods. They are completely open source and give us the tools to mod. This is just an oversight by them, you can install that part without worry.
