For us MK2s -> upgraders: Plastic Parts?

I'm not sure if this belongs in the MK2S forum or here. More coins flipped here than there, so here we go:

In anticipation of getting the MK3 upgrade kit, it appears the plastic parts of the kit will be in STL form and not actual printed parts? If this is the case, do we need to print the entire library of parts, or can some be re-used from the original MK2S?
What fill % or pattern would be recommended?

If we DO need to print the parts ourselves, I'd really like to take care of what would otherwise be printer down time to print what's needed in advance of the kit arriving so I'll be ready to go with the upgrade.

Off topic: In my case, I'm still so impressed with everything about my MK2S that I am not concerned about how long it will take for my upgrade kit to arrive. I look forward to being amazed by even more incredible features, but am content with being wide eyed in amazement at the accuracy and detail of every print I pull off my plate. So glad I switched to Prusa!

The STL's are already available here
https://www.prusa3d.com/prusa-i3-printable-parts/

I'm not sure if they will have a link for just the upgrade or if its just the mk3 parts that you have to sift through. You can at least compare them with the STLs of the MK2S and print whats different.

Ive been evaluating the parts this evening, looking for exactly what tou suggest. What is different.
Once i find them, it would still be great to know
Do i have to print them?
I assume out of PETG?
To what degree of infill?

PETG is fine, ABS is fine. Apparently the new parts are PETG, but they send ABS in upgrade (not sure if that'st a mistake). They have the extruder parts still in ABS, so maybe that's the biggest difference? You'll definitely need to print that out as its completely different.

Perimeters will provide more strength than infill. Maybe try 4 perimeters on structural (parts with bolts/nuts) area that matter with 30-50% infill. 0.2 layer height is going to be fine, no real need for anything less than that.

I pulled up all the parts and did a quick visual compare. There are differences in almost every part, so it looks like every part needs to be printed. I put my findings in a spreadsheet I'll attempt to paste here. Anything in the comment field are there because I think the parts are close enough to the same that they may not need to be printed, OR, I think there's a problem with the MK3 model. In particular, I think there's an issue with the z-axis-top file in the MK3.
If the file names are significantly different I gave that part it's own row, and of course, it would need to be printed.
Anyone else care to double check me? Basically, everything is different except the z-screw-cover.

I take it you're doing the MK2S to MK3 full and not just the MK2S to MK2.5, right? Since the frame is different, yeah just about every part will be different.

As far as I know only the electronics box, psu cover and the z motor bottom caps are abs, but not the extruder parts

There is still time btw, upgrades dont start shipping before end of january

I will be doing mine in colorfabb xt and HT

Sorry, extruder fan shroud
per Josef Prusa:
"Right now PETG mostly, excluding the extruder fan shroud."

.

Why comparing if all the info is in the readme? https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/blob/MK2.5/README.md

We print everything in petg now except the fan shroud, but Abs-T will work for too.

Re: For us MK2s -> upgraders: Plastic Parts?

Is there a corresponding list of upgrades for MK2S to get the latest parts, if I have one of the early MK2-> MK2S versions?
On GitHub, almost all parts have been changed, but it can be difficult to see which ones are important (errors and improvements) and which are more cosmetic changes.

I would like to keep my MK2S updated until I decide whether to upgrade it to MK2.5, MK3 or remain MK2S.

(The new MK3 kit comes according to UPS later today ... 😀 )

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

I'm also working on printing the parts for the MK3 upgrade. I've noticed that most of the extruder parts are printed in black in all the kits. I'm wonder if this is being done for a reason? I was thinking it was to probably lessen the light getting to the filament sensor, but wasn't sure if the color matters. If so I may have to buy some black filament to go ahead and print the parts out needed.

I took advantage if my 3D printer hating wife being out if town to print all the MK3 parts. All but the extruder body. Three tries and three fails. I flipped the stl file 180 around X, but it falls apart at the top about halfway through the job.
Has anyone else had success?

I printed all extruder parts in ABS (eSUN ABS+) , no problems at all. At least they look good :-).

For real? 500 € and we have to print all the parts ourselves?

I really don't mint printing these parts myself, but I would like either g-code files for download, or the recommended print settings.

Oh okay. I thought already all upgrader need to print the changed parts themselves. That would not have been acceptable for 500€.

Got it. All parts are done. I don't know what caused the failed parts to go badat 70%. But I'm ready to go now.

from what Prusa support explained, the extruder parts being black ABS is for the light transmission on the filament sensor. Black works best as it doesn't reflect any light towards the sensor.

??
How many different messages can they give?
Jospeh P stated in this forum that all parts is printed in PETg except for parts fan which is in ABS??

There is black ABS and black PETG, as well as orange ABS and orange PETG. You can't assume material based on color.
