First Timer with a new MK3

Hey guys & gals,

I just received my MK3 kit on Friday and got it built and printed a few things off the SD card with the included Silver PLA and everything went smoothly. I'm now trying to print the new R2 Revision parts using some Black Esun PETG and have a couple questions regarding quality. From the limited knowledge I have gained from watching tons of YouTube videos and reading these forums, from my first layer it looks as though I may be under-extruding? Also it appears that there's some ghosting around the screw holes. Would these parts be acceptable for you? And any tips on whether I'm correct in my assumptions and possibly how to fix them?
Thanks,
-Josh

Shiny black will always highlight the flaws. Your prints look fine, better than is supplied with the kits by Prusa. Ghosting is one of the issues that Mk3 still has at the moment.

I agree that your print shows underextrusion. You can see it in the visible gaps in the top layer. I have seen this with all PET-G on my MK2 and MK3. I suspect that PET-G needs a different extrusion setting than PLA or a higher temperature than the default settings. The first thing I would do is check the extruder calibration with that material so that you know you are getting the right amount of material fed to the hot end. Then increase the temperature in 5 degree steps a total of 15 degrees to see if that solves it.

I'll print a temperature tower when I get home, but is there an equivalent print I can do to check extrusion calibration?

Thanks!

Looks like great prints for PETG!

Could you please post the factory file for that part to share your settings?

Have fun!!!

Hi there,

Check this out

Try PLA first then PETG for a comparison

i found the the auto-leveling wonky with this sometimes. i can get the 1st 3 top layers fine then it starts to gap a tiny bit then it goes back to fine... and usually on a different part of the print... like if i did a 150 mm square some lines will be perfect, others will have tiny gaps... it's entirely the leveling in that case.

I've been following Ron Hunt for about a month now and he's got some nice videos. For those that haven't put their MK3 together yet he has a nice video series for the build. It is getting dated with all of the changes and updates though.

Sure thing! Here's the gcode 😀 (I had to zip it as .gcode is an invalid extension apparently lol)

Thanks, I'll give that a shot - so far the parts I'm printing are looking great now that I've adjusted the filament diameter to 1.70. It appears this stuff isn't quite 1.75
