Calibration failed! check axis and run again2

Hello

My MK3 arrived and the building process run smooth.
Now I cannot finish the calibration cause of the error 'Calibration failed! check axis and run again'
The selftest is running successfully. During the calibration (or calibrate-Z) the Z-axis moves up, scratched 2 seconds and then moves down to the plate. As soon an the sensor sees the plate the error is shown.
Even when I put some metal in front of the sensor, the y-axis stops and the error is shown.
In the 'show end stops' dialog I can see the PINDA responding correctly as the Z-sensor

it is somehow wicked...
all the axis seem to run smooth. Moving them with the settings dialog in both directions is working without loosing a step.
the movement is working, the sensor is working, the sensor seems to be at the right position.

What reason does the printer have to show this error? Does is measured the travelled distance?

Any hints?

greetings Klaus Kloos

If I remember correctly, it is measuring the expected distance from top to plate.

Several possibilities:
- Your pinda probe is too low relative to the nozzle? That would make it appear that the available z space is a few mm shorter than it should be.
- your bed is too high. You might check your build under the bed and make sure that your bearings (on the front to back linear rods) are well seated in the Y-carriage, and that your Y smooth rods are seated fully in their end supports. If any of those are not quite seated it could make the bed be a bit higher than expected.

Let us know if you figure it out.

edit: btw, make sure you pushed down full as in this picture in step 28 of the Y axis assembly. There should not be space under the rod.

Hello Paul

Thanks for your fast answer.
After sleeping a bit Ive found the problem.
The hotend was not at the right position. At the upper end there is a nut which shut be lying in the printed part. I had it below this holder, so the hotend was around 6mm lower.
In the description Ive found pictures of the extruder and could see the difference.

Fixing this gets me a bit further. Calibration of the first line of points is working.
But the printer does not find the calibration points of the middle row. It drives into the printing bed.
What is the difference between the first and the middle line of calibration points?

Greetings Klaus

it is printing 🙂

The last missing thing was the calibration wizard. I had used the z-calibration, which is much less.

Im impressed. Such an improvement to my old China I3.

Greetings Klaus

Calibration failed!  check axis and run again

Hell0 Joan,

I'm new to this forum thing, but I saw that you were a moderator so I thought you might be my best bet for asking a question.

So what if this happens out of no where and I've been doing prints for months on end.

Really I just got done with a print, cleaned the build plate took the SD card out put new files on it placed it back in the printer hit print it started going through the motions of checking out the axis and on  its return from the top of Z it stopped and gave me the same error. There's nothing blocking the rods.

I can go in to settings trying to raise and lower the Z axis. It will raise all the way but only comes about half way down, and says its at 0.00 height.

I can then turn the printer off and manually lower the Z axis, turn it back on and go to settings and now raise and lower it all the way both directions.

But if I run a Z axis calibration it stops again, and gives the error. Immediately go back to settings to lower, and I cant because it say its at 0.00 height.

I've tried running all recalibration test, and cant get it to zero back out and find that the build plate is much further down.

Any suggestions?

Shawnee

A few basic questions. You start off with "What if".

How long have you actually had the printer and did you build it from a kit?

When you get an error message like that - start off believing the message.

Raise the dust covers on the steppers a bit so they are not binding.

Remove the screws from the trapezoidal nuts and run the Z axis for the full length, feeling for any binding.

Check all the cables behind the printer and make sure nothing is catching.

Over to you, Joan.

I not Joan, but things wear out and break on moving products.  Have you verified the PINDA is switching?  When was the last time you lubricated all the idlers and and repacked the linear bearings?  Have you done a self test?

Many things can fail over time, and a broken wire is commonplace on printers that have been used. Broken PINDA wires are right up there in failures.

I have been getting the exact type of failure as described in this post also.  My machine is less than 2 months old. And I have been printing items from the preloaded SDK card and some of my own creations.  All of the sudden, one day the Z-Axis does not want to calibrate.  It thinks that Z zero is ar the highest point of the hot bed that it can go.  When I do the calibration wizard, it goes through the checks of the fans, heated, and hot end.  X and Y axis calibrate ok.  But the ZAxis thinks that a zero is at the upper left side of the machin. This is where the machine runs its homing dance  for all of the axis instead of at the front left hand corner of the heatbed.

What would cause this to happen?

After reading the responses to Shawnee, I am thinking my problems may have something to do with my PINDA.  How do you verify that is is working properly?   I have checked its status and it has a 1 in its status page.  Does this mean that it is working?

For a newbie in this forum business also, I want to thank you all for indulging my many questions.

Regards  all,

Ckalpin

Raise the extruder to about 30mm (Height is not immediately critical)

look at the top og the Pinda, the resin seal should be glowing RED. move a spanner or other piece of metal to the bottom end of the Pinds, does the resin seal go dark? if it does the PINDA is sensing metal,

NOW look at the LCD Display, the bottom item on the menu should be support, select that, then scroll down to sensor  info and select that
you should now see the PINDA sensor state, at rest (with the extruder about 30mm above the build plate, it  should show 0 (zero) ) if you test the pinda with metal, again, the LCD should show a change of status from 0 to 1 every time you approach the bottom of the pinda with metal.

If the LED changes state but the LCD status does not show the change, then the signal wire in your Pinda cable is faulty.

If this works as expected, try moving the extruder from side to side whilst repeating the test. you may find that the cable is faulty in some positions and not others...

if you find the cable is faulty, you can either replace the whole pinda and it's cable, or relpace the flexible section between the ens of the cable support on the extruder, and the clamp on the Einsy Box.
I use this technique, repairing the cable with flexible wire and heatshrink tubing

regards Joan

Hello.
I have a problem with the I3 MK3S. He failed a printout and sent me the following message:
"Bed leveling failed. Sensor didnt trigger. Debris on nozzle? Waiting for reset".
How do I overcome this problem?
