Cable Chains for MK3

I patched the work from Aaron Yourk and the Prusa MK3 files together and created a Einsy Base and a cable holder for the MK3.
The rest of the parts ar from the MK2 Cable Chains

Re: Cable Chains for MK3

Hi looks nice, but isn't the chain anchored on the back of the extruder back?

i don't understand what you mean. it works like the one for the MK2, just the adapter for the Extruder is different.

Here a picture from the side:

Did you leave the nylon filament in for taking the strain on the 90 degree corner or is it totally removed when using the chain ?

Re: Cable Chains for MK3

The filament is there to ensure the spiral wrap doesn't bend improperly. (Bend like in motion, changing the angle of the cable)

Since a cable chain can't bend improperly there is no need for a filament. The 90 degree angle at the end is static, and wouldn't benefit from filament. Sure it could exist there, but if the cable was already bent 90 degrees, the filament won't help.

Cheers, just wanted to double check that it wasn't intended to be left in.

Would like to make this, but where is the stl for the Einsy Case for the chain to attach to? Is the Einsy board case different than the Mk2? Could you please refer to the right case to print for this project to do on MK3?

The link is in the first post.

This is what I printed to fit them to my mk3.

Old age! All I saw was first file of the extruder wire extension. Thanks for the heads up!

my cable chain for the bed binds on the rod, think I have to many links in my chain. Gave up at 1am last night.

Re: Cable Chains for MK3

Hey guys if you're interested I remixed this to include an Einsy mount that has cable chain mounts for all 3 axis. The z-axis routes through the top of the Einsy mount now due to the shorter path. The MK3 must have a shorter z-axis motor cable because I couldn't get the original MK2/MK2s design to work.

I've only had one print with these installed but I didn't see any issues.

Here's a link to the Thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2794755

Edit: This also includes a remix of the newer heatbed mount design from Prusa to include a cable chain mount

Like the case, can you add the door in back for PI ZERO W to make it easier. to get to without having to remove back cover if i need to update software.

Yep that's on my to-do list. I'll try to get an updated version out tomorrow night. It will have the access door along with some tweaks to the z-axis cable mount locations on the Einsy mount and motor mount.

Currently the z-axis cable mounts aren't parallel which shouldn't cause issues but doesn't look the greatest.

You do not need access to SD card just to update the software. Basically you just need access to SD when the SD card fails or when you would choose to install another distribution or make a clean install of your current distribution

Hello,

I would like to use the cable chains too, the current fillament inside wrap seens to do a little to much force.
Instead of printing i like to buy a comercial product due better resistance and better friction, don't know if compatible but can anyone recommend one that fits the current models?

I don't know of any commercial chain links that are compatible.

The overall dimensions of 1 chain link are: 13.3mm high, 22.5mm wide, 26.3mm deep.
The cable cavity is 9.3mm tall and 13mm wide. There is 0.7mm tolerance built into the design for where each chain link meets each others' hinges. This makes them relatively low friction.

If anyone wants to see what it would take to make an injection molded version of my design, that would be great and could provide more robustness as well.

Dimensions PNG

and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.
