Prusa MK2, Printing on Glass?

Hi everybody,

I have a question about the options regarding printing on glass with the Prusa i3 MK2 Original Kit.

Im printing for a while now with the MK2 and thinking about selling my old printer. (Wanhao Duplicator) The only nice thing i like about the Wanhao is that it prints on a glass surface wich gives a real smooth and shiny first layer. Now i'm wondering if that's possible with the MK2 as well?

Can i just add a glass plate on the PEI sheet? and how does it work with the Pinda Probe? do i need to chance certain settings? Would really appreciate if some one could tell me a little bit more about this. What to do and especially what NOT to do 😀 Links or anything like that are helpful as well 🙂

Thanks in advance!

Best case, the PINDA probe has a detection range of roughly of 1mm, usually less.. 0,800 should be safe. So your glass plate gotta be rather thin.. and thin glass has a problem, it tends to break. Glas on top of the PEI you'll lose another 0,35mm or so. So, you gotta start bein very creative creative to make this work.

It can be done, the proof is here:

If this is worth the hassle, you gotta decide for yourself.

Thanks alot Stephen.K

Im gonna try that for sure! I've got a lot of models with a big flat surface on top which i print upside down for the smooth shiny finish 😀 So for me it's definitely worth the hassle!
