Re: New Y bearings

Ben

I have them fitted to my Mk1.

However, they are designed to fit inside a metal case and not with cable ties, so they do introduce some additional lateral movement, but I have not seen a problem with my prints so far.

YES!

@Ben,

I use super glue to fix them to the zip ties and it works very well but to be honest i doubt it was necessary as the original bearings also move a bit inside the zip ties....

Re: New Y bearings

Yes I though I might be able to carry on the argument here 😆

Seems they fit x and y but not the z.

Re: New Y bearings

They are drop-in replacements for LM8UU's.

I have these installed on my Y-axis currently, and they seem to be working reasonably well.

My Y bearings, straight from PR, were bad. The rattled pretty badly.

For starters, I never liked the way the bearings are mounted with zipties, so I have them sitting on actual printed blocks. I lose like ~6.5mm height putting the bearings on these blocks, but I can live with that.

There is still some play if you force it by hand, but less play than what I had with the bad LM8UU's.

But that's also because I had the prescience to buy at least 6 of them so I could pick the tightest 3. That seems be the biggest issue when using these bearings, and that's why the reports of the performance of these bearings are so varied.

I think these bearings should be biased in some way in order to take up the slop. You get a little of that with gravity on the Y-axis and the natural interference between the smooth rod misalignment.

Re: New Y bearings

I just upgraded my printer x axis with these and its remarkable how silent they are 🙂

I have read about the issue with the tolerance and there are aluminium enclosures for those bearings but i will with without them first as the ones with the aluminium cost a lot like 6 Euro each. Also i wold have to rediesign the extruder part and to buy a wooden y-carriage to make the new ones fit. Wich is a lot of work and money. So i will see how these go.

After all the printer is designed to work with normal bearings who can be quite sloppy at times....

Re: New Y bearings

I have some on the way so I will also update when fitted. I cannot wait to hear the difference.
