i3 upgrade kit

Hi,

Looking into the i3 upgrade kit from e3d... I've spoken with them and they said that it is compatible and that i'd just need to change some settings. They've linked me the new firmware as the mk2 now comes with the full v6. However i'd also be installing the titan extruder. How do i go about adjusting the steps?

Please help

Regards

Rob

The i3 upgrade kit from E3D is intended for clone users and not the original. If you want a V6 extruder, just buy that and run the Mk1 "full metal" firmware; it is a direct replacement, but I doubt that you would notice any difference in use.

Titan upgrade will fit a Mk1, but there are a few mods you will need to make; the X axis (and I think the extruder) will run backwards and the extruder steps will need amending in the firmware.

However because the original i3 uses a very small filament drive gear (when compared to clones) again you will not notice a difference.

If you are currently running a Mk1, then you would be better off buying the Mk2 upgrade kit. If you are running a Mk2, then the titan would be a downgrade (would reduce the printable area).

That's what I thought. Where is the mk1 firmware you talk of? Thanks.

Re: i3 upgrade kit

I have E3D Titan extruder on my Kossel Mini printer (its bowden setup). I love it on the Kossel, because it provides plenty of power you need with bowden and I find that better solution than stepper motor with integrated gear mechanism. But IMHO its not worth buying it for Original i3 MK1/MK2. Default extruder is fine (maybe stepper motor on MK1 should be more powerfull).

You can find recommended e-steps on E3D Titan wiki (some funny math is there).

Firmware is here: http://prusa3d.com/downloads/firmware/prusa3d_fw_3_0_3.zip

Open the zip, go to 1_75mm folder (for the Mk1) and the firmware Hex is there for both RAMBo and V6/Lite6 variants.

For the Mk2, open the Mk2 folder within the zip.

Re: i3 upgrade kit

Hi again,

I've found the .hex files you linked to thanks Peter. So if i install the v6full and then upload the corresponding .hex you mentioned that would be all I'd need to do?

Also I have been looking at the source files for the firmware. I've got it all set up on the Arduino app but believe that these source files are regarding the mk2 and not the mk1? What would the implication be from using these? I don't plan on doing anything right at this moment but would like to know how in case I'd like to adjust any values (for example acceleration to get a better print).

Or is there a location I could get the mk1 firmware source files?

Cheers once again!

Regards,

Rob

Rob

If you have a look at the instructions for preparing the source code for compilation, you will notice that you have to use a particular configuration variant for each printer.

There are 8 variant files each one containing the specific configuration for 8 types of printer, both Mk1 and Mk2 (only 2 of the variants are for the Mk2).

Just make sure that you copy /rename the right variant for your printer and the firmware will run fine.
