Hello all,

So I made a design that is basically a hollow cylinder with a 1.6mm thick wall. I wanted to have 4 perimeters with a .4 nozzle.

The slicer refuses to create gcode with over 2 perimeters and the wall ended up being .9mm when printed.

I have tried making the wall 1.8mm as well, with no luck. 

Finally I redesigned the part with a 3.4mm thick wall and the slicer generated 4 perimeters, so the wall will finally come out to 1.6ish mm? I am very new to this, but I tried to design with the nozzle in mind, and I have to almost double my thickness in design to get the slicer to make the amount of perimeters to get the thickness I desire.

Also this is at .2 speed resolution with 15-20% infill selected, really ive tried all sorts of infill options, selected detect thin walls, i've yet to find a way to make the slicer use more than 2 perimeters in the cylinder wall. 

I can provide anything necessary if it will help diagnose.

If you make the wall 1.7 mm thick, it works with 4 perimeters. This is because the filament string becomes wider than 0.4 mm.

But, as I said, I tried 1.8 mm already as well with no luck, and I had to go all the way up to 3.4 mm thick to get the slicer to show 4 perimeters.

I feel like there must be some kind of setting I am missing here.

Dimensions I designed:

72.6mm inner diameter

74.4mm outer diameter

83mm tall

Dimensions printed:

74.43 outer diameter

72.17 inner diameter

82.92 height

Here is the sliced view. The double wall is designed at 1.7mm in this example. Prusa Slicer has used 2 perimeters, which as I know from printing already, will not equal 1.7mm at all. No matter how many perimeters I set, it will not use more than 2 on this part.

Well this is embarrassing...

Actually I'm starting to think I may just not know how to do math, or determine the thickness in between inner and outer diameters.

If you have an inner diameter of 72.6mm, and you want the cylinder wall to be 1.7mm thick, what would the diameter of the outer wall be?

I'm gonna go live under a rock now haha

Could you please attach a Project file for this item

in Prusa Slicer, 
File Menu, 'Save Project As'

this will create a .3mf file, then Zip Compress the .3mf file, and attach the Zip file here, please

I am sorry for the misunderstanding, it turns out I just didn't understand how to do the math on the thickness of the wall on a hollow cylinder, Prusa Slicer was doing exactly as it needed to :/

Thank you! I finally noticed in fusion 360 that it was showing the distance between circles as .85mm, so i realized I had made a mistake. I for some reason thought that just making the outer diameter larger made it that much thicker x_x

Could you give me a formula to use that gave you the answer? Or is there something simple I am missing? Been trying Google for the last few minutes.

Desired wall thickness x2 + inner diameter.  Its basic math.  You have walls on both sides so you have to double it to get your required outer diameter.

I sucked at math at school.  Hated every minute of it.  Do a few projects of any sort though, from wood working, building a bench etc or designing something to be printed and this sort of stuff becomes second nature.  Its practical, day to day stuff so it sticks with you.  

Besides a few mistakes quickly makes you learn lol.

I'm lazy. I use offsets for wall thickness in Fusion 360. No math required.

I should look into that, my method for this was to calculate inner and outer diameter circles, then sketch them, then extrude the face upwards.

In an example like this, I’d define innerDiameter as a user-defined variable to draw a circle, wallThickness to size the offset, and now you can simply play around with different diameters and wall thicknesses without the need for any math whatsoever.

Set the desired inner or outer diameter as a user parameter, set desired wall thickness as another, then just use those for the internal/external measurement and offset in your sketch. Change your mind later on and you just update the user parameter.
