trouble slicing moving parts

I'm trying to slice a simple part where I've included a ball with a pin on it. Please see the part attached.

All of them have a different offset because I want to figure out what can move and what not.

First I printed them and I got one of them moving. Now I read that I should split the part otherwise the slicer merges everything together. The problem is, that when I hit split, my balls drop to the bed, making them merge together even worse. How can I change this?

I'm using the 1.3.9.1 Slic3r Prusa Edition.

It highly depends on your STL file. If the whole object is one body, you might get things merged. But if you have multiple bodies, slicer will consider that. Check the sliced preview and see how it's trying to print.
But I think here is a design flaw. The balls are just hanging in the air but they need some kind of base to be printed on.

Spheres are VERY hard to print. What would be optimal would be have a "support ring" under a "flat" cut out of the sphere.

The "ring" will not necessarily need to be "removed". But think of "overhangs"

Our printers can print ~75 degree overhangs flawlessly. Anything 80 degrees or higher, and you will experience sagging. (and for a balljoint part like that, the sagging will "bond" the two parts.

Ensure the "sides" of your balls are LESS than 75 degrees at the bottom. You will also need some sort of support structure under it.

I can't design anything, so don't ask me how. I just know how to "quick look" at a stl, and tell if it's printable.

If your "balls" are true sphere's with no support under them, I would say they are 100% un-printable. 🙂

the shafts seem tightly constrained so balls are overkill...
use discs instead,

thanks for the replys! I'll change the part a bit to make it more easy to print. Maybe it wasn't that easy afterall.

However, the slicer question remains. Why does it drop the balls to the surface rather than just trying to print them in the air?

No chance to see it from the posted image. Please attach the STL file, so it can be checked.

Which tool are you designing in? Do you design the balls and bracket as separate bodies or single body in your CAD tool? I'm early in the learning curve myself, but I believe it makes a difference if you split the objects in your CAD tool vs splitting in the slicer. Please correct me if I'm wrong 🙂
