Simple print keeps failing

Grabbed this simple narwhal design and trying to print it for my daughter: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1741770

I have MK3S+ - brand new.  I have calibrated and run all the self-diagnostics, etc.  I was able to print the batman design that comes on the flash drive fine.  I'm using the Prusa PLA filament that shipped with the printer.

I loaded the STL into slicer, and selected my printer, and exported to .gcode.  Did not change anything else about the file.

I get about an inch or so into the print and it just starts spewing out stranded mess of filament.  I've tried twice.  Any recommendations?  Is there something wrong with the file?

There doesn't seem to be anything immediately obvious in the way of errors  apart from it loading in an odd pose

If this is how you tried t print it,

did you get about this far

before it started spewing out spaghetti?

If so, I expect  it's because you didn't use supports

Looking at the original model it's intended to print

with the Pectoral fins on the build plate and with supports  (you can see the layer lines on the model)

Maybe like this

this is perhaps a bit excessive  it's the default from the bed only solution...

the Blue bits (below) show where Prusa Slicer thinks you really need support

you could try doing this in the current full release 2.2.0

but it would be easier in the Prusa Slicer 2.3.0 Release candidate 3 version using the paint on supports

Hi Joan,

You are exactly right where it started to fail and spew spaghetti -- where you highlighted in your pic above.

Should I try rotating the model and then slicing?

Weight matters.  Try printing in .1 resolution in the orientation it is meant to be printed in (belly down).  For FFM, you will need supports to print this poor Gnarwal.  That's it!  Bill it as a Gnarwal - lumpy extrusions on the bottom.
