Proven G-Code starts stringing on one machine only. No matter the material.

So I've been running a few dozen part files for months and no problems at all on both of my MK3's but out of the blue one of them starts stinging no matter what material I use. With PLA is very fine almost like cotton stands. With PETFG its a little thicker but still not bad and mostly just annoying. I've tweaked temps and retraction and it still strings. I tried cleaning the tip but no change. I checked the extruder gears and they look fine. No clicking while printing and very few filament buggers and only with the PETG as usual.

The same files I've been running for months still work on the other machine using the same filament. I'm beginning to think something may be wrong mechanically. Any ideals what else to check?

Have you tried changing your nozzle? Perhaps the old one has worn out or developed a burr that is causing this.

No because its literally 2 months old. I guess it could have a burr.

Well, it's not months but how much and what kind of filament you run through; your initial post sounds like you do a good amount of printing regularly so it's a good possibility.

Also check your extruder idler tension; if it's not the same/close for both printers then it's quite possible the same retraction setting has different effects on both machines.

I haven't compared the idler tension, thats a good ideal and Ill check.

The older printer has been running almost non stop for about 6 months on the same nozzle running either PLA or PETG. I did change it right after buying it because the factor nozzle kept clogging.

I really need to get some extras.

PTFE tube may be moving a bit.

PTFE tube may be moving a bit.

Is there an easy way to check this or do I need to pull it apart.

Last nights PLA print got worse and worse towards the end of the print. Now it looks like really bad PETG stringing.

Just did a cold pull and opened up the gears to check the PTFE tube. I could see it sticking up a but so I used an Allen key to push it back down. With just a slight bit of pressure and it popped down about a 1/8". Does this mean its already bad and needs replacement or is there a way to tighten it?

Print and install one of these:

You should also make sure the PTFE is seated properly i.e pushed down as far as it will go, and with the black collet pulled up while pushing down. Then install the clip.

So it was the PTFE tube. I pushed it back and it worked perfect for about 3 hours then started working it way back out. Ill try the clip and see how it goes. Thanks for the link.
