RE: Need help smoothing the model

First of all a fdm printer prints in layers. You can not get rid of layers. You can choose to print at different layer heights but all prints will have layers. If you want a smooth surface you have to post process your models. There are various techniques, I suggest a google or you tube search as that subject is extensive.

a resin printer like the SL1 can produce much smoother models due to the lower layer heights but even they are made up of layers if you look closely.

the settings you mention for smooth, textured are when you have multiple print sheets for the printer. Prusa sells both smooth and textured sheets. Each spring steel sheet needs calibrating for print height as they are all slightly different thicknesses and the settings allow you to store the live z values for the different sheets and recall them when you change the sheets over.

Photos are actually quite helpful to explain what it is you are fighting.

Layering is one issue, and the FDM process is limited there to 0.05 mm heights;  but other factors like mesh density also cause artifacts.  Mesh density issues can usually be resolved using third party tools.  MeshLab being what I use.

Post a photo that describe the problem you have, once done, you might get feedback that is more helpful.

And last:  Please, read the USER MANUAL.  You'll be surprised what you can learn from it.
