How to hollow out material to use less material when printing

I'm new to modelling and am wondering what the process of removing material from a model for faster prints is called?  If I know the term, I'm sure I can find something about it.  As an example, I'm talking about how the filament holder arm is modeled with it's exterior honey comb structure.

With 3D printing the weight saving geometry is often on the inside of a Model.

sometines you can the infill by orientating the model so that the sides you want to be open, are on top and bottom of your print. then leave the top and bottom layers off... in Slicer
