How do I Print This Wind Spinner in PETG?

I found a beautiful wind spinner by dazus on thingiverse, and I would like to print one. However, its a difficult print in PLA and I have no clue how to print it in PETG, while maintaining quality. I am especially interested in printing the spherical version in PETG.

This is dazus's original design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4850421

Here is RICK8340's remix: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4877466

I downloaded and sliced the taller version.

The designer hasn't taken account of the mechanics of FDM printing but it's so nearly a straightforward print 🙁

The unsupported top hub is really annoying, it would be better reworked as a conical self supporting structure...

And the main source of error will be flex in the long usupported blades as new layers are added.

I suggest you slice the top off and print it later to glue in place.

Then I would try printing the main body without supports *very slowly* and try to time the print so you can monitor it in the later stages.

I say take the remix version scale it down to fit the height limit, say 69% and just go for it with your PETG settings. pay attention to it as its printing over the course of time and see how it's looking it's something like a 23 hour print at that scale.

you will learn a lot, and might be surprised.

Good luck, show us your result.

I followed Diem's advice, scaled it down to 50% (just to do a quick test), and cut it in half for later gluing, and it turned out great except part of one of the "support" spirals broke loose and lodged itself in the different part of the print 😆. Any ideas on how to prevent this? I suspect it is caused by strings adhering to the nozzle and causing the whole part to be pulled off and transported. This process also caused some burnt build up on the nozzle which falls off and gets in the print.

Hmmm.  By scaling to 50% you have made those sections very thin and fragile ...

There is a good chance that a full sized object would print OK, I'd be tempted to go for it.

Good point, I'm going to do some work to reduce stringing, then print the full scale thing. I will be back with the results... in a few days.

@swiss_cheese

I just wanted to update you. I finally figured out why I was getting so much stringing. My filament was waterlogged and a few hours in the oven took care of that. I am finally going to start printing today!

The spinner is done. One more thing, do you have any suggestions for what glue to use? I am going to do some tests today with some glues that I have and I wanted to know what has worked for you. This was printed in the Inland (rebranded eSun) PETG+ translucent magenta.
