Help me diagnose what is happening with community favorite print

Having a really hard time figuring why this is happening. To start, the file i'm printing out is Ondřej Stříteský's standalone drybox.

Let me explain what i've tried and what few settings i've modified using the latest Prusaslicer build to arrive where i am now.

First print

  • Atomic Filament Black PLA
  • 100% Scale
  • Settings adapted from .30mm QUALITY @ 0.6 nozzle MK3 Prusa preset, with following modifications:
    • 0.6 brass nozzle @ .32mm layer height .
    • 3 perimeters
    • 6 layers top and bottom layers
    • Following all checked: 1) Extra perimeters if needed,  2) Ensure Vertical Shell thickness, 3) Avoid Cross perimeters, 4) Detect thin walls, 5) Detect bridging perimeters.
    • Seam position: Aligned
    • Extrusion multiplier - .93
    • Temp Nozzle - 205C/200C
    • Temp Bed - 60C/60C

Second Print

Thinking the nozzle may have been the problem, i printed a second one, albeit much smaller to see if the problems remained or went away. Sadly the latter was it. THe strange wavy lines (vibration?) insides the inner wallls. The surface blemishes. This one also had gaps!

  • 30% Scale
  • Settings adapted from .20mm QUALITY @ 0.4 nozzle MK3 Prusa preset, with following modifications
    • 3 perimeters
    • 6 layers top and bottom layers
    • Following all checked: 1) Extra perimeters if needed,  2) Ensure Vertical Shell thickness, 3) Avoid Cross perimeters, 4) Detect thin walls, 5) Detect bridging perimeters.
    • Seam position: Aligned
    • Extrusion multiplier - .93
    • Temp Nozzle - 205C/200C
    • Temp Bed - 60C/60C

Progress report on a third print.

I now suspect its related to the Detect Thin Walls setting. I disabled it and the gaps so far appear gone and the print looks cleaner overall..  disabling that setting however also removes a feature of the print that locks the bearings in place. Its a thin sliver of plastic that protrudes from the sides of the wheel base (where the bearings reside).

Not sure i understnad why disabling that feature improves overall quality. Unless something else is in play.. ><

I don't have such a thing as a .3mm quality setting in prusa slicer.

From the looks of these pictures, my first thought was you're printing high temp, PETG - but you say is PLA.

I'm still on the "it's too hot" angle - all of that stringy stuff and the gaps.  Did you turn off cooling?
