Embedding object with pause and avoiding overhang

Hello,

This is my first post, and I enjoy my MK3S+.

I have played with the pause command in order to embed clear acrylic sheets. This worked fine, but it is not waterproof. My goal is to have good adhesion of the filament (PETG) onto the acrylic sheet which is waterproof. I am not sure if this is even possible. Perhaps using a flex filament for the printing-cover area would yield better adhesion.

However, looking at the slicer, it will create "overhang perimeter" type as the first layer on top of the acrylic sheet edges. This is expected since the slicer does not know that there will be an object placed here, for it to print on top of.

Looking at the slicer preview, these overhangs seems to have a gap between them, and perhaps it even won't extrude "hard/enough" against the acrylic sheet. I was thinking that it perhaps would be better if these print areas that will print on top of the embedded object were printed in a similar fashion as first layer printing behavior (or other manner).

Is it possible to override how these particular areas are printed?

And if so, what kind of print settings will create the best bonding to acrylic material?

RE: Embedding object with pause and avoiding overhang

After playing around a bit in the slicer, the following settings seems to create solid infill as the first layer which will be on top of the embedded object:

  • Use "expert" mode.
  • Go to "Print settings" -> "Support material"
  • Under "Options for support material and raft", set "Contact Z distance" to "0".
  • The mouse hover help also states that the slicer will prevent bridge flow.
  • However, in the "Plater" view, if you select "Supports: None", bridge infill will be created!
  • To avoid bridge infill where they normally would be below supports, one needs to select: "Supports: For support enforcers only".

Hopefully the settings above can be set "locally" with modifiers, so that normal behavior occurs elsewhere on the print.
