Curly Boat

Hello all, I have recently assembled my MK3. To test the printer I tried to print the boat model that was already in the SD card. It goes very well in the first 95% of the print but at the very end things get curly. It looks like the connection to bed is not strong enough and boat flips and you know what happens after. I carefully adjusted the first layer thickness, I calibrated it on -.975 which became a quite thin layer so it is not loose and it sticks to bed very well. Anyone knows how this can be fixed?

RE: Curly Boat

Chances are that your first layer is not as good as you think...

are you using 7x7 mesh bed levelling, (Set via LCD Menu) in preference to 3x3 mesh bed levelling!

Have you tried 'Life Adjust Z My Way'  https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk3s-mk3-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/life-adjust-z-my-way/

there are three profiles zipped at the bottom of the first post in the thread!   if the square is made of individual strings your live Z is too high(too small a negative number),,,if the square is rough and rippled, your live Z is too low!(Too big a Negative Number)

Bed Cleanliness is your friend for pla... I wash my build plate, well,  with dish soap(Dawn, or Fairy Liquid) and hot water, rinse with  hot water handle it by the edges, make  sure it's dry...   and you should not have problems!

regards Joan

RE: Curly Boat

thanks Joan, the post you sent is pretty helpful, I will print the thin films for sure, how ever I still think my setting was not as bad. But you mentioned bed cleanliness, I did not clean it since it is assembled. Are you saying that bed should be clean and not greasy? that is why you wash it? I mean my bed looks clean, but I have touched it a lot and that makes me think it my be a little greasy without enough friction. Thanks for the tips, I clean the bed and try the z adjustment again.
