A town print

hello guys I want to print the following

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4713137

I want to cut it in 8 pieces. 4 vertical 4 horizontal. or just in 4 pieces.

Can anyone tell me some tips?! Should I must see support to everything?!....which height layer 0.30,0.20 or 0.15?! or doesn't matter?!

thanx

My guess is

that's going to be a challenging print if you don't have your settings dialed in.

The author gives you some starting settings.  50mm/sec speed, 1.6mm layer height.  .16 resolution, 10% infill.  The speed is definitely going to need to be a bit lower.  And as it gets up to the spires you might need to fiddle with cooling.

This might take some trial and error to get dialed in.  Maybe someone on here has printed that and has a .3mf file with settings that worked for them.

Impressive print

I'm not really a HP fan, but I just downloaded it as I was curious to how it would slice and if it would fit.

It's obvious that a lot of hours went into producing that one.  It's a very impressive print.  I don't think I will print it (my wife was looking over my shoulder and remarked that I would be crazy to do it 'what would you use it for?') but it's interesting and I am tempted.

It fits fine on the I3 sheet.  I'm very confident that it would print on the Prusa at the quality shown in the photos or probably better.  There's most definitely some horizontal artifact in there and I think the Prusa could and would do better.  I've always considered those multicolor rainbow filaments to be just a novelty, but for this print, it works well.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that on the Prusa with PS, it will take almost 42 hours at a .2 layer thickness.  At .15, which would be what I would use, it bumps up to 54 hours!  It will use about 1/2 of a spool of filament.

Sliced with Cura for the S5, it would take 33 hours at .2 and 51 hours at .15.

The designer says that supports are not necessary.

If I were to try this, I would first cut out some spires as a test print and tweak for the best performance on the tips.  I'm sure I would slow things down 10-20% or so which would add to print time.  I would also test the UPS prior to launching the print.  😉

One thing I would do is cut the sign separately and print it horizontally for better detail in the lettering.

I'm not very familiar with the Eryone printers (how do you pronounce that, anyway?) but IIAC they are a very 'vanilla' open frame RepRap design.

Anyway, it's an interesting print to consider.

silly title, trix are for kids.

if my two printers didn't have stuff queued up for my wife I'd be tempted to try it.  I also wouldn't really have much use for the final product but it would definitely be a challenge. I'm a big fan of slowing down the printer especially on the first layer to make sure I get good adhesion on small detailed parts of the first layer.  I've found I do this more since I got the satin steel sheets as I'm still getting used to them.

for large prints the rainbow spools can look pretty cool.

Woem!

The only thing I've used the rainbow filament for was for cat toys.  😉

Day dreaming

I think it would be nice and fun to have friendly competitions here, picking difficult prints and have different folks take a stab at how they would print them. and also they should share the way the did it as a .3mf and explanations, so others can learn from the results.

Just a day dream

well guys thanx all for the answer. really good infos.

well I cut as I say in 8 pieces in order to not have errors and missing the whole print.

I make with mine settings. I will try the other pieces with the creators settings.

that looks pretty respectable

I'd say you might need to add a modifier so that the towers get printed very very slow.  But otherwise that looks pretty good.

And correct the spelling mistake...

I will slow the print in 40mm/s from 50mm/s. I have a bit ghosting I don't know how can I fix that.

how can I add modifier for very very slow as you say?!

Thanx Diem for that. only you saw that. Pretty good detail

I'm assuming that you mean the 'wizardary' [sic] lettering.

I would simply do a cut of the .stl image to isolate the sign, then a cut-paste to remove the superfluous 'a', and then I would print the sign flat on the build plate for better text and use glue (or if you want to be fancy, registration pegs) to hold it in place.

It seems a bit tricky ...

Give me a day or so to get some spare time and I'll try to isolate it and fix it.  I'm very confident that it can be done.

Try this.

The one thing I immediately noticed is that the typeface, when printed in original scale, is very fine and will not print well, even horizontally.

I'm including several sizes, from 100% to 300%.
