3d fabric? Chain mail? Whatever?

Hi,

I've recently become fascinated with the idea of 3d printed fabrics and the idea of actually making some simple actual garments with them.

I realize that anything you do on a 3d printer will be much coarser than regular woven or knit fabric, more like chain mail.

I downloaded a few prints from Thingiverse and they were total disasters when I printed them! I mean this machine will do perfect flawless prints but all I got were blobs and pieces.

I asked one of the local guys for some help printing them but he never tried anything like this.  He did find one sample print for me from the Prusa prints, kinda like an H style chain mail and surprise surprise it printed perfectly.

Question? Has anybody here ever successfully printed any fabric or made anything wearable out of it?

Any hints for printing this kind of stuff?

Anybody have or know of any more fabric type sample prints that will successfully work on the Prusa?

Thanks in advance.

Is it "chainmail" or similar you want, do you want to print on fabric?

RcLifeon has some good videos for printing on fabric/tshirst.

No, I'm talking about printing the actual fabric, not printing on a textile.

The one I like is called Flowalistik and it looks like it will work for what I want. You can join pieces just by aligning and twisting. I think I'm going to be able to do seams, darts, slits and such just by joining and removing the little pieces.

Now if only I can find a 3d print zipper. HHOK!

Don't laugh, try this:

I knew I had seen them, and a quick google search found that and others.

Pretty interesting video on printed fabric experiments.

The models can be downloaded accorded to the video (I didn't try)

Interesting video thanks.

I've kinda settled on that one type for my first project and it seems to print very well.
