Y-Axis problem? It's not vibrations or belt tension

Hey all,

Trying to diagnose an issue on my i3 Mk3. See pic:

Calib Cubes

These are 3 different calibration cubes I did after trying various things to eliminate vibrations and make sure belt tension was fine. Apparently these aren't the culprits as there's no difference in the prints.

Now I'm suspecting something is up with my y-axis. It's pretty solid as far as rotation is concerned, like I have to use a bit of effort to get it to rotate even a bit, so I'm not sure that's the issue, either.

First layer height calibration is Ok, though every now and then it's a little inconsistent on the different parts of the bed.

Printer was built from kit, it's about 2 years old. This is a relatively recent issue.

Any help appreciated.

A loose screw perhaps? making it wobble 🤔

This can't be good...

On the top of the left-side rail (the one with the two linear bearings). The rail falls through the bearings without issue on gravity alone and I don't feel anything abnormal when feeding the rail through the bearings... thoughts?

Ok, pulled the y-axis rails off, cleaned, lubed them. Rotated the rail. They're silky smooth now. Made no difference though.

I checked all the screws. Frame is solid, bed is solid. There's no flex or anything in the frame or any of the axis rails. I'm seriously perplexed.

The surface of the printer is unstable and vibrating perhaps?

It's sitting on a table on anti-vibration pads. I've even tried it sitting on a hardwood shelf on the floor. Made no difference.

Still haven't solved this problem. I checked the bed to see if it's warped, but it appears to be flat.

I'm seriously out of ideas.

Just a followup after doing another print. It looks like I'm getting inconsistent Z-height. My first layer height seems inconsistent from print-to-print and inconsistent across the bed. I put a steel ruler on it's side across the bed and across the PEI sheet (on the bed) and it's flat, so I eliminated a warped bed/PEI sheet as the culprit.

The printer self-check says my axis are square, I have the 49-point mesh leveling enabled. I've eliminated the slicer as a suspect -I get practically identical issues whether I use Slic3r or Cura. So I'm 99.9% sure this is a hardware or firmware issue.

Were you ever able to resolve this issue?  I'm getting the same and could use some help.

Thanks

Were either of you able to figure this problem out? I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried everything I could find research wise. I have an Anycubic Mega S. I’m almost to the point where I’m about to try new lead screws even though they appear to be straight.
