X-crash with frame during print for no reason / Troubeshooting help needed

Hello everyone,

I´m kind of new to 3D printing, so sorry if this a kind of basic consult... I readed in the forum a couple of similar cases but not exacly the same, so I decided to open a new topic...

I´have been printing for a couple of weeks with my MK3S (running Firm: 3.8.1-2869) without any problem (not layer shift at all, and good quality printing). But today during an expected 10hs print, after about 5 hours (print high around 5cm), the extruder lifted up couple of centimiters moved to the far right and crashed against the frame. The log showed 2 X crashes.

Recalibrated XYZ, did a print of a "test cube" and resulted fine, but when tried to print a different thing, this time, I got another crash but a high of around 5mm. Now I can see 4 X-crashes counted.

FYI, I had already printed this file without problem a couple of times already, checked the SD card and can be read without problem.

Checked the "Belt - Status" with the following values: X=253 & Y=285

Could you please, let me know what should I start checking to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks in advance and regards

Ramiro

Check for binding in the X and Y axis. This would be picked up as a crash - and you would lose orientation.

@robert-rmm200

I found that moving along the X axis was a little hard, so I loose the X carriage rear cover screws a little (1/4 turn) and greased on the rods.

Will make some new tests and report back.

RE: X-crash with frame during print for no reason / Troubeshooting help needed [Solved]

I have already printed a couple of things after, everything looks good (no me X-axis crashes).

So realeasing the bolts and oiling the rods made the difference.

Thanks for your feedback @robert-rmm200

Trouble with layer shifts or crashes? After nearly 2 years of loving my MK3, it slowly got so it crashed for no reason and had numerous layer shifts in the X direction. Prusa forum helped. All I did was added some 3 in 1 oil (low viscosity lubricant) to the rods and then manually moved the extruder (via the settings menu) back and forth a number of times until the bearings were lubricated again. Fantastic prints followed. It’s like brand new again.

Keep the dust off your rods and keep your bearings lightly lubed.

Oil on the rod is only a temporary fix until you can do a proper pack the bearings with grease.
