X-Axis Layer Shift

Hello,

I have a brand new MK3s+ and the first couple of prints came out really nice. In the last two prints I experienced some heavy layer shifting in the X-Axis. A couple of layers are off - then it returns to the original position.

1: The crash test shows Y 6 (which i don't understand since the shifting occurs in the X direction)

2: The belt self test gave me 240 for both X and Y (can a tight belt also cause layer shifting? I thought it occurs with the belt being to loose)

3: The second belt test gave me a Loose pulley Motor

Before I take the printer apart I wanted to see if there is anyone out there who has experienced a similar problem and maybe knows what i could try. Thank you.

I'm sure we've all seen layer shifts. Here's my list of common causes, and I'm sure there are more:

* Pulley screws on X motor not properly tightened. One has to be tightened against the flat side of the motor shaft!

* Belt not correctly tightened. Use this tension meter to get it right: https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/46639

* X carriage over-squeezed. Loosen the back plate on the X carriage axis.

* Nozzle hit an obstacle. Some patterns such as grid have lines that cross within one layer. This can lead to little pile-ups at the intersection points, in particular if you have slight overextrusion, which in turn can lead to the nozzle catching at those pile-ups. * Zip ties on the wire bundle on the back of the extruder not properly positioned, so they or the cables hit the model.

Hi,

I have/had the same problem, after about 2-3h printing time crashes are detected on Y-axis and after that I have layershift on X-axis.Belt tension and gears were fine and XYZ calibration did not help either. With crash detection turned off, I get a decent printout.

- Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of the crash detection?

- Or to disable it after the first layer?

Another cause is sticking due to lack of lubrication.  With the power off, gently move the axis.  Is it smooth, does it travel the whole way?

Sure, you can turn crash detection off in the settings menu on the printer. I've done that for all my printers, as I have found this feature cause more problems than it solved.

Thank you for your answers.

I checked the things listed:

- pulley is tightened correctly 
- belt tension also fine, although I will print a tension meter soon
- x-carriage seemed good, from eye inspection
- couldn't find any obstacles for the nozzle to hit.

Still got layer shifts..... but then the solution was quite simple in the end: Turned off crash detection! and printed my best benchy so far. I will keep this turned off for all future prints. Is there any reason why I shouldn't do that?
