Such extreme noises are often caused by defective ball bearings. Either the linear ball bearings on the X-axis are defective, or the stepper has been damaged.
Of course it is explainable that the X-axis loses steps.
I would take the X-axis down and have a look at the bearings and the linear shafts. The belt will probably have gotten some damage, too.

This video might help you a bit. But you need some tools (pliers, various allen keys etc.):
