X-Axis Crash Detected, Auto Home and Crash detection not working properly after a crash.

Tech Support Question:

I am having a layer shift issue that seems to be driven by the x axis. the print will detect a X crash but after attempting to Auto Home and restart it fails to restart in the same spot. I have been dealing with this issue for most of the time I have owned the printer (since June 2019). it has sat months in hibernation because of this issue. The issue first started with a print of the benchy file that is provided. I had a temperature adjustment pause in the middle of a print. The Printer sent the extruder to the auto home position at the front left corner, with the LCD Screen Reading it needed to heat the hotend. then it failed to return to its last Known coordinates and caused a layer shift.

During My failed attempt to print the V2 Lac enclosure G-code files, it became particularly noticeable, and wasted an entire role of PETG in failed prints. I have found it nearly impossible to use anywhere near the full print bed surface because, the larger (and longer in duration) the print size the more frequent the failures occur. lately after the X-Axis Crash is detected in the middle of a print without actually hitting anything. it attempts to auto home but fails to find home in the correct spot.

Now selecting auto home does not even find home in the correct spot. I am very frustrated with this issue since it can be intermittent. I have gotten really good at running a full re-calibration of the printer. since this seems to fix the problem temporarily. I ran a 3 hour print last night and it finished properly. however, before re-calibration last night I had to toss 3 failed attempts. and this morning after printing a successful print. The next print failed with a layer shift and resumed to good printing on top of the shift.

I need help to resolve the issue. It seems to be software driven to me. However, I do know that the X-Axis problem seems to be aggravated by the bearings on the extruder. Having lubricated the bearings, I find the extruder moves more freely along the X-Axis. But this does not resolve the software driven issue of the printer losing its location during a crash or momentary pause for adjustment in heat changes. I can change filament in the middle of a print without issue but if it detects a crash of the X or Z axis it is unable to return to its previous location after being reset

Lubing the bearings is good, but they could still be binding. It is easy to over-tighten the mounts.

Turn the power off and move X and Y from end to end. You should not feel any binding, either direction. Just smooth.

@robert-rmm200

Thank you for the help, I did lube up the rails with some silicone spray, that helped but doesn't solve my issue with the extruder losing track of where it was if the print is interrupted by a crash. Or it's in ability to find home unless I unplug it and manually take it there.

Check x belt if it is tide enough.

Check grub screw if it is sitting on the flat side and tide enough.

Check if belt is not rubbing against something wen its moving.

Check at the backside if cables are not hitting something, wen you go left  or right.
