wrong hotend LCD temp reading

after changing the thermistor and the heater cartridge the LCD temp reading is maxing around 188C when I preheat the hotend to 215C

according to an infrared temperature gun the cartridge gets to about 255C

why is the mismatch and how to fix it?

RE: wrong hotend LCD temp reading

Hi Saz,
is the thermistor a genuine Semitec 100Kohm cartridge thermistor?
does it read the correct temperature at rest? (Room temperature? )

is it securely fitted in the heat block?
regards Joan

RE: wrong hotend LCD temp reading

it started when I purchased and replaced the hotend with a new genuine E3D V6 hotend.

the temp max at 188, then contacted E3D excellent support people, and now I m awaiting a replacement.

I contacted Prusa live chat, again top notch support, they guys are sending a replacement as the printer is under warranty.

whilst I m waiting, I tired a 3rd party hotend from Amazon. but the exact same thing is happening, temp reading max at 188

all connections are secure, resistance reading seems normal

I wonder, is something wrong with the board?

Also, would the 16-18C ambient temp have an effect?

thanks

@saz

That sounds like the board since you are getting multiple hotends and thermistors with the same reading.
