Wire came off from blob
Hi all,
I recently finished building my MK3S+ and unfortunately got a little too ambitious and ended up with a gigantic blob. I eventually got it off with a hot air rework gun, but I pulled this blue wire out. Is this the wire for the thermistor? Anyone know if it's normally crimped or soldered under the heatshrink? I'm thinking I'll just remove the heatshrink, solder it back, and cover it with some kapton or e-tape.
Also, anyone have any tips for removing the rest of the gunk? How bad would it be if I don't fully clean out every little crevice?

If I can see it right, the wire is not cut off from the the thermistor. So theoretically you might be able to soldier both ends of wire back together. If you want to clean it completely, I would recommend to remove thermistor and heater from the heater block and clean it separately. Both thermistor and heater cartridge are fixed to the heater block with small screws. Maybe take a look to the guide for E3D hotend assembly.
So release the two fixing tapes to get better access to both cables, solder the cut one, clean it, put it back. In worst case you can buy the whole new thermistor. Once you will be buying something, put to the cart also some spare parts. Spare thermistor is a good choice.

Thermistors are dirt cheap, why bother with some half-baked repair job? Get a new one, and buy a couple more as spares. And while you're at to it buy a heating element too because blobs happen. Google "prusa thermistor replacement" and follow the instructions from Prusa's knowledgebase article.

I would first clean it, solder it back, check if it works and then order all broken parts or spare parts. There is a minimum dissasembly to do that. With replacement you can wait a couple of days till the spares arrive. Replacement will be then more work.

If you dare to do this, i recommend adding some shrink wrap.
