Why is all this support material being generated?

I am printing an Infinity Gauntlet and I'm having a problem with Slic3r Prusa Edition generating a lot of useless support material in the middle of the object, even though there is nothing even above the supports.

I've tried changing the support angle setting and it still wants to generate all of this wasted supports.

How do I prevent Slic3r from putting in all of the support material in the middle of the object?

If you provide a link to the STL we can look for anything unusual. You should also save off your slicer settings and lrovide a link. Otherwise, We're just guessing.

if the glove is hollow, you could print a one layer patch across the bottom of the glove, and then set support from build plate only.
this would stop the support on the inside, and should be easy to remove after the print completes.
