Thermal runaway - now extruder won't heat

In the middle of a print yesterday my printer stopped with a "Thermal Runaway" error.  I tried to restart the print this morning and now the extruder won't heat (the bed heats just fine).   I'm guessing that that means that my printer is dead [since I'm not competent  to nor have the tools to mess with the extruder].

What I forgot to include is -- does anyone have a conjecture as to what broke on my printer [my guess is that a wire to the extruder broke] and what could be done to fix the printer?  Thanks

I think your thermistorwire is broken. This is a common cause of such problems. Pull the thermistor plug from the Einsy and measure the resistance. This should be 100K.

Thanks for the info.   I hope it isn't the thermistor -- I've only had my printer for a little over two years and it hasn't been used all that much and I've already had to replace the thermistor once [and as a non-hardware guy I found it pretty daunting.  What's an einsy?

The Einsy Rambo is the printer mainboard where the thermistor is plugged. If you have a multimeter, you can pull out the thermistor connector and check the resistance.

Einsy Rambo - Conn.

Thanks for the picture it helps a lot.  I remember [vaguely] having to deal with that when I had to replace the thermistor last year.  I do have a VOM and I need to dig around and see if I can find my metric allen wrenches.

Do the thermistors generally break once a year?  Or is it, for some reason [I'm assuming that that's what my problem is], that my printer is particularly problematic...

Thanks for the help

The thermistor wires tend to break (especially the bed thermistor). It is best to replace them with a silicone wire (self-soldering) such as this one:
