Swap different filaments - how's it supposed to go?

Hi,

small thing: when unloading the filament one is asked which filament is used and the printer is then heated up accordingly.

Now, if I change from a low temp filament to a high temp one and enter the old type, temperature will be too low for the new type when inserting the filament. Shouldn't one be asked from which type to which type one is changing?

Thanks,

Christoph

Yes, I'm aware this is a luxury problem. I'm soooo pleased with my Prusa printer that I've to come up with questions like this one 😉

You could

1.  Use the higher temp for the first unload

2.  Change the temp (preheat) to the higher temp after the unload

3.  Probably be able to load the higher temp filament even at the lower temp

I'd suggest you invest in some cleaning filament.  Moving from low to high temp is easy.  Moving from high temp to low requires more work to ensure that the high temp stuff doesn't just live in a corner of the nozzle.

If you use high temp filament, and want to go to low temp filament.

Keep using high temperature for the low temp filament, change to the low filament, extrude the filament with high temperature, then if you see the low temperature filament, change the temp to low, then extrude again.

This way you extrude the old filament.

Then start printing.
