Strange recurring err: MINTEMP

A few days ago my MK3S stopped in the middle of a print with err: MINTEMP. I contacted Prusa chat, did the checks the tech requested and then he suggested to replace the thermistor. After I replaced it everything seemed fine and I started a print, incidentally the same print I had to abandon before. After about 50% had been printed I received again err: MINTEMP.

RE: Strange recurring err: MINTEMP

A MINTEMP error is triggered when board sees an implausibly low temperature (high resistance) from the NTC thermistor. The threshold is set in the firmware at 15°C. The high resistance usually comes from a disconnected thermistor. It can be a problem with the cable (but you seem to have replaced the cable together with the thermistor), or it can come from the connector or there could be a bad connection on the board. It could also be that you just killed the new thermistor cable too.

The most common way to damage the thermistor cable, which is rather fragile is when it is squeezed too tight in the holder of the Einsy box and then as the printer X axis is moving left and right, it is twisted back and forth and eventually gives and breaks.

Before ordering another thermistor: how can I find out if it is broken? I have a multimeter but I must confess I use it mainly to test batteries. So I would need a simple explanation of what to hold where and what the display should read. Thank you very much already.

RE: Strange recurring err: MINTEMP

start with continuity your meter might beep. if that works

then go for omh. but if its a broken wire, continuity should be all you need

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Prusa has a Multimeter Usage page that explains all the details, like what the resistance of a thermistor is supposed to be (at room temperature).  What you want to do is to check if the resistance goes to infinity at any point when you wiggle the wires. Even if a wire is broken inside the plastic insulation, the two halves will be touching most of the time and so the thermistor will work. But when you bend it the right way, they'll separate and you get a MINTEMP (or infinity on the multimeter in resistance mode).

Hey guys, I started getting MINTEMP few days ago. I just replaced the nozzle thermistor for a new one from E3D and started getting MINTEMP BED error ... this either seems as a software issue or a broken control board ... 🙁

The nozzle MINTEMP error appeared after a few minutes of print. After replacement I managed to do a 3h print, uploaded new gcode, happy with the results and got this one.

It seems super fishy that both things would fail exactly at the same time 🙁

I got MK3s with MMU2s

@ondrej-r

do you think the bed thermistor plug have been nudged when you changed the extruder thermistor?

it may just need pressing back into the socket.

No, I am actually an electrical engineer and I have tested both components are working. I am expecting another delivery in a day or two to be 100% sure but it’s a shame we get this when we need the printer most 🙁

I have an issue after replacing the hotend and thermistor. I replaced the thermistor and got MINITEMP, I used E3D V6 bought from Prusa. My printer is MK3s , got it 4 months ago. I checked the wires to make sure everything is ok, I have been reading here and some suggested to flash the firmware ? Any suggestion please ?? I am trying to troubleshoot this for a week now....
