Strange grey PINDA probe received

Hi everyone,

since my PINDA probe has become seemingly very temperature dependent - so I never get the same first layer and the warmer, the deeper it gets - I asked Prusa Research for a replacement PINDA probe.

It arrived yesterday. The replacement probe looks very different - and it is not Prusa branded but from another manufacturer. It is grey, the cable is thicker and stiffer, the metal housing is different.

I went into chat. Chat told me it is a temporary probe while they wait for the exterior to be ready. Functionality will be the same they say.

Well this thing is quite ugly - but if it will solve my problem I am fine with this one. I would have preferred an original Prusa probe, but yeah.

I cannot supply a more detailed photo in the moment - interesting was also the sticker on the cable where the manufacturer and part number was printed I think.

Will have to wait a few more days until I have time to reassemble my MK3 with the new probe:-(

Are current kits also shipping with this temporary probe? Any thoughts on that strange sensor?

Best regards

I also recieved this probe with the grey material. Anyone know if there are any differences or if it should work just the same?

Chat said it works the same!

Did you receive it with your kit? Or as a replacement like I did?

Yes, will post in a few hours a picture of the other side of the sticker - maybe some else can be faster?

Temporary probe? Does this mean everyone who receives on of these will get a replacement when the proper ones are ready?

My MK3 is due any day now so it will be interesting to see which one I get.

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

No, temporary in the sense that the exterior is not final (will be black and prusa branded again)

There is no technical need to change that for customers.

I wonder if they just ran out of black prusa branded probes? Or was there a technical reason to really change the probe and stop using the black ones?

My guess is that they ran out of stock of normal PINDA probes and so have sourced these sensors from a third party producer. But it would be interesting to know what has happened...

Received the same thing and checked with chat that it's OK.

Part number from the sticker is:

Jimou Sensor
P/N: IB2T-B0802N-C4B

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

As far as it works fine, will it make you any difference if it is gray or black?

Right as long is it's of equal or better quality the damn thing could be hot pink with neon lime green stripes for all I care... My guess is that it's a supply issue. I don't know enough about sensors to know if Jimou sensors are any good so I'll have to rely on you all.

Here is Jimou's site if that helps.... http://www.jmcgq.com/en/

I surely hope this replacement fixes my issues that I experience. If it does, grey is A OK 😀

Here are pics from the sticker from all angles

PN isn't but company is well know. I think I have already seen their sensors somwhere. According to their website they produce variety of sensors, inductive, capacitive, optical/laser etc.

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

Received my MK3 kit today.

The PINDA probe is the black tipped one with the PRUSA branding.

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

I found how to get these sensors.. the PINDA V2 probe. The new gray kind (just recently received with my MK3). 5v, the tag matches the tag that was on the PINDA that OP received. Here is the spec sheet:

M8 Shorter Inductive Proximity Sensor with Cable
Size M8 * 35mm
Mounting Non-shielded
Sensing Distance Sn(mm) 2mm
Housing Material Brass nickel plated
With or Without LED ● with LED
Operating Voltage 5VDC
Ripple <10%
No Load Current <10mA
Max.Load Current 50mA
Leakage Current <0.01mA
Voltage Drop <1.5V
Switching Frequency 2KHz
Response Time 0.1ms
Switching Hysteresis <15%(Sr)
Repeat Accuracy <3.0%(Sr) / <5.0%(Sr)
Protection Category IP67
Operating Temperature 10°C- +100°C
Temperature Drift <10%(Sr)
Short Circuit Protection /
Overload Trip Point 150mA
EMC RFI>3V/M / EFT>1KV / ESD>4KV(contact)
Shock/Vibration IEC 60947-5-2,Part7.4.1 / IEC 60947-5-2,Part7.4.2
Material Active Face PBT
connection D3 3*0.15 grey PUR 0.75M
DC 3 wire 10-30V NPN NC IB2T-B0802N-C4B.7/35/PUR

This is all good news, but the bad news is that I had to order a ridiculous amount of them to get them to the US at a decent price, wire untold dollars to a stranger in another country, wait weeks with no word, and convince my wife that I was not nuts (still have work to do there). I figured I could just sell a bunch off to anyone who wants a spare, since it is difficult to get them from Prusa (always seemingly sold out unless you ask for it through chat). PM if interested

Did you buy a sea container full of probes? 😉

That is really awesome!! Could you ask the supplier for a graph showing the expected trigger distance over temperature? I still would like to know if normally that sensor triggers lower or higher with raising temperature.

I personally live in Europe so I will not contact you for a probe. As I said: nice move! As we learned every one should install a grey probe for its better characteristics.

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

That’s a great idea - I’ll ask. Probably won’t hear from them for several days but if I do I’ll post it.

Not quite a shipping container.. but let’s just say I raised a few eyebrows over here.

We have a motto: two is one, one is none..

I kinda took that up a notch

Re: Strange grey PINDA probe received

Hi Daniel, I'm in the US and would be interested in a few probes.
For some reason, the forum won't let me PM you. Can you PM me with details?
Thanks,
Tim
