SD CARD and power outage feature issues

Hi there,

I have to make a 6 day print, i tested power outage simulation and i encounter issues with sd card.

When i power back printer, software ask me if i want to resume print, the hotend goes in the initial position where the print stopped, but the sd card file gcode is not available on sd card anymore.

I have had dig far into problem and i realize that every time i power on printer and the sd card is already inserted, the sd card files are not showed up. If i remove card, it say "Card removed", so i assume the printer sees card but not files on it.

If printer is turned on and remove card and insert back, the files appear.

How can i solve this issues before i start the long print?! The sd card is fine, never had issue,  the printer not reading files when turn on.

RE: SD CARD and power outage feature issues

Is it a flashAir card? If so (or even if not) try updating to the latest firmware. There was a fix in one of the more recent releases that addressed this (specifically for FlashAir 4th gen - but it may also work for other slower cards that need some extra initialization time).

I tested also with last firmware, the card is normal, lexar 16GB sdhc. Only this symptom have, it doesn't see card when i turn on printer while card is inserted. It only sees files if i insert the card while printer is turned on.

The other possibility is an issue with your card socket; some people have reported success using a thin shim of plastic or paper on one side of the card to help it seat better.

Do you have other SD cards you can try to narrow down whether it is the card or the printer?

@vintagepc

Thanks, i just printed that plastic "washer" to put behind socket, no succes. I don't have any other sd card, just microsd, i need adapter to try another card. I hope is the sd card's fault.

Ok, finally i solved issue. It was a weird solution.

For those who have same issue i post here how to solve it.

When power outage occurs, presumably your printer have been cool down, when you start printer, press to recover print and when on screen it says " heating bed", you unplug the card and plug it back  and the files should be seen.

From what i understood, printer memorize in EEprom last step from gcode from sd card, since card files cannot be read, you unplug card and plug back or repeat until files appear on sd card, but keep in mind that you have to do these steps while printer heating itself.  I was lucky that heating bed+nozzle was stored in printer's memory.
