PSU to Einsy power cables replacement

Hi guys

My PSU to Einsy powercables are defect. When I touch them near the Einsy the printer will shutoff or restart. Video: https://streamable.com/brt95

Can I use ordinary household 220v wires that I normally would use for installing a lamp, put on some crimp connector and get going again?

Thanks for reading

RE: PSU to Einsy power cables replacement

These cables aren't in any way special. They do together carry about 10 Amps, so make sure you use an appropriate wire gauge / cross section. A typical lamp cable is thin, some are less than 0.50  mm² (AWG 20).  To be on the safe side, I'd go for 1.5 mm² (AWG 16) as a minimum.

However before you replace them, I suggest you check that the ends are inserted properly and the screws tightened properly on both ends of the cable. Then I'd check if the crimping on the original cable isn't bad. Possibly re-crimp with new connectors. Only if that fails, I'd be looking for a new cable. The cable itself is the least likely component of the chain to be at fault.

Screws are tight. The thing is, my PSU is places under my enclosure. And I lifted the printer without thinking about it. Putting some stress on the cables for a second. I think the problem might be the connection between crimps and cables on the einsy side.

Not sure what the correct name is, but with "lamp cable" I mean a power cable with two wires. Similar thickness as the Wall to PSU cable. At least way more isolation then the normal cables from PSU to einsy. I will later check if it has something written on it to check Amps or AWG.

Would be nice to replace the cables, as with the enclosure the default length is kinda tight.

Thanks for your reply.

Fingers crossed the Einsy itself isn't damaged then.

The cables to the Einsy don't need that much of insulation. That is required for mains voltages. But they do carry a lot of current instead, hence they need a lot of copper. Of course the extra insulation doesn't hurt and makes the cable less prone to mechanical damage.

Now that makes good sense.

The one in your picture is 2x 0.75 mm². That is thinner (too little copper) than what I'd be comfortable with using.

Is this 1x 1.5 enough? Next option would be this super thicc 3x 1.5

Yes, the 1x1.5 is enough. You'll need two of those, of course. 😉
