Printer printing layers incorrectly

Hello Everyone,

My MK3S is my first 3D printer so bear with my lack of knowledge. I put the kit together about 2 months ago and have been having success with the PLA that came with it. I bought some ColorFabb XT to try to print some face shields and I am getting this layer issue pictured. I have tried adjusting the tension of the belts as well as the temperature of both the extruder and the bed to match the recommended parameters. I have been following recommendations I have found on other websites but am still getting this layer issue. Is there something I am missing?

Take care,

Conrad

One thing to check is that your motor pulleys are still tight.  Unless tightened in the very specific manner from the manual its quite easy for them to work loose.  This introduces backlash which give a small layer offset as the direction changes leading to staggered printing like you have pictured.  As they get looser they wobble more and the layer shift gets worse.  Eventually they just spin freely and then you axis doesn't move at all.

Its a very common problem so worth checking as a first step.

@neophyl

Thank you for the suggestion. I did notice the x-axis pulley was a little loose. I tightened both pulleys and am trying to print another face shield. I will report back in a few hours.

@neophyl

Thanks again for your help. That made a world of difference, it looks so much better now. For future reference, are there any other steps I can take in the future?
