Printed shuddering/grinding at startup of print

When I start a print the printer will go through the motions of moving to the ends to test the limits. In almost every case it reaches an endpoint and has a loud shuddering noise and the whole printer shakes.

It is loosening bolts and generally doesn't feel right. I am relatively new to this Prusa. Is there some kind of tuning I should do or is there something wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated.

@peter-m26

Right in the middle of a long (hopefully) print. As soon as that gets done I will record it and post it here.

Put some lube on the smooth rods if you haven't already done so,,,

@joantabb

I had been looking at the lubrication because of another problem. I am also getting random layer shifts.

Everything will be printing perfect. even what I would consider to be exceptionally well and then suddenly the X-Axis shifts by 20-30 mm. It is getting pretty frustrating.

I was just playing with the lubrication and movement on the X-Axis. It was going along very smoothly, back and forth with no issues. Suddenly it felt like it seized up for a moment. It then freed up and moved smoothly again.

This is a pretty new machine. I have only had it a few months. Should I be seeing bearing problems like this?

The grinding problem is a bit different but I suppose it could be related. That issue always happens at the end of the Y_Axis limit test. It seems too consistent to be a random bearing problem. But I am open to being wrong if someone has an idea that fits.

this is a problem often faced by people who have not lubricated their linear bearings early enough.

Unfortunatelp it takes a while for lube to work it's way in, from the outside, during this time, recurring jams are quite common

Lubricating the bearings whilst off the smooth rods is the preferred method.
