I usually put it in my cabinet in my garage labeled "Ambiguous" ...

ps: I really dislike the lack of a preview option.

RE: Pretty PLA V 4, how?

searching the exact words on google, yields: https://prusaslicerprofiles.com/download/pretty-pla-v4-0/

to load it into Prusa Slicer (at least on windows), you'd go to 'File' menu, 'Import' then 'Import Config'.  This will then load up the settings from that file.

@tim-m30 All that took less time than your apparently snarky reply.  Maybe just asking to provide more details, or not replying at all would be more helpful.

RE: Pretty PLA V 4, how?

Why should I do the search for someone else?   As for snark, I provided an answer suitable for the quality of the request, so please don't get mad at me because you felt the need to help someone who was too lazy to type the words into google.

@tim-m30

You are as useless as your comments.

I do not use google.

The search engine I used sent me to the download link but no instructions on how to install it.

Tim you are an A$$ hat and no tim I ever met amounted to anything so you check a lot of boxes.

You are a suitable douche. I hope that came out right as my english is not the best. This is a forum for creativity and support. You lack any of that apparently.

Everyone has off days and I think your plea for help managed to land on one of those,  but I’d just like to point out that Tim is actually one of the people who provides more help posts and information that almost anyone else on the forum, top 5 probably, definitely top 10.

Also as you point out, this is a forum and no matter if someone annoys you there is no need to resort to verbal abuse, even if sometimes Tim can sort of provoke that response 😗

I do not apologize for defending myself for a very legitimate question. Had I SAW the page referenced I would have never posted this. I think I am done with this "forum" as the FB ppl are much more polite and not complete a44hol3s.

@obie-c your original post gave very little information to go on, short of guessing and providing responses that might be completely off-base. In many forums such posts are automatically deleted as low-effort/sh*t posts. There are plenty of people here willing to help, but you can't expect unpaid members of a support forum to put more effort into helping you than you're willing to expend explaining your problem. I can understand your frustrations, but be aware that you're coming across as a bit entitled. Take a breath, explain your problem, and plenty of help is usually forthcoming. Relax and enjoy printing!

Thanks for that....  one followup question:  this will be the first mod to my Prusa Slicer -- does the Pretty profile replace existing profiles, or is it added to the list?

The profiles you add become new profiles in a list below the stock profiles. Nothing is lost.

RE: Pretty PLA V 4, how?

Can I please return to the original subject? I’m having loading filament profile issues.

I’ve loaded the pretty profiles for a few filaments but noticed something odd and I’m wondering what I’ve  done  wrong.

So I loaded the profile using the Files-import-import config etc.
( Which I have to say is VERY confusing to a newbie since I never have thought to look for the word “config“  -all my fruitless  searches on google and in the prusaSlicer pages was using words like filament,  “Add filament“ , “add filament  profile“  and similar). Getting as far as I have was by total coincidence on hearing something Tangentially related  in a YouTube video.
But anyway that’s past history now

So I added a Pretty profile (eg Pretty PLA V4) but now I get the name in all of the Boxes on the top right.

It now says my Print settings are Pretty PLA, my Filament is Pretty PLA and my Printer is Pretty PLA.

Tapping the down arrow on any of these shows the new Pretty PLA is listed in the User Presets for each of the above.
So I tap all the appropriate options to return the printer to my Mk3S and change the print settings back to the .15 quality.  All good so far.

Close Prusa slicer and open it again - All the Pretty profiles I loaded are now gone.

What am I doing wrong?

It's a bit confusing, and hopefully profiles in general will get an overhaul soon. I think you are running into a difference between importing a config and importing a config bundle. A

  • A config file has all of the setting -- everything under Print, Filament and Printer tabs in one file. It only contains the settings associated with your currently enabled profiles (those selected at the right). Think of it as a settings snapshot.
  • A config bundle file has one or more distinct profiles -- any combination of one or more  Print, Filament or Printer setting options -- in one file. Think of it as a backup of your custom profiles.

If your pretty profile is a config (not bundle), when you load it, you'll see any of the profile tabs with impacted settings renamed after the config file. These are not stored and will be lost when exiting PrusaSlicer if you don't save the settings as profiles. (More below.)

If you instead import a config bundle, you are adding a set of profiles -- any combination of Print, Filament and Printer settings -- to your install. These will be in the list (usually - see blow, sorry) on restart.

If you import a config and like the settings, what you want to do is save each profile tabs -- so one each from Print, Filament or Printer tabs that you want to keep -- by clicking the (quaint) little diskette icon next to the profile name under each tab and give it a name meaningful to you. For example, I have created 3 sets of profiles for Print, Filament and Printer settings to select between different nozzle sizes, filaments and print quality.

You can run into odd situations with dependencies. For understandable reasons, Prusa has had to limit what profiles they'll support now that 3rd party printers are directly supported. This means that as of recent PrusaSlicer releases, you need to select any settings profiles provided by Prusa and save custom versions. The filament profiles are the most obvious choices. If I create my own Printer profile, I may not be able to select a Prusa filament profile without first creating a custom copy.

It's arcane and the roots go way back to Slic3r before Prusa forked it to PrusaSlicer. They do seem to be making significant improvements, but I have no insight as to where cleaning this up falls on their priority list. The good news is that Prusa, unlike the low-end manufacturers, is developing and supporting this software for free and it works well with their supported printers and settings. That's really the extent of any obligation.

I've got some notes on configs on my pages linked in my signature and am adding to them regularly. Hopefully you'll find something that works for you. I can say that PrusaSlicer is the best slicer going today, and blows away the program I paid $150 for. The next release has a lot of improvements. Frustrating as it can be, I definitely recommend PrusaSlicer.

Post details on issues you're struggling with and folks here are happy to help out.

RE: Pretty PLA V 4, how?

Thanks for that.
Yep very very confusing and as much as I have found Prusa slicer to be great it’s not user friendly in some aspects.
I have no experience with any other slicer apps so maybe it’s still better than them.  I suspect it’s also suffering from the double language problem. The developers (As seen on the many YouTube’s videos I’ve watched) seem to mostly not be English speakers  And a lot of the usage in the text and videos is a bit hard to follow as an English only speaker, And then add to that they are super-techies and so don’t speak in newbie terms either.

But I’ll figure it out eventually.
I initially tried the config bundle tab but realised pretty quick it wasn’t what I really wanted. So my descriptions given related to just importing the config file not the config bundle.
Ive managed to print with an  imported config file so at least I know it works ( and boy it worked really well compared to the stock profile so I would be happy to just reinstall every time it’s so good! But would be nice not to have to )

Ill work my way through your answer and see how I go.

I’ve worked it out.
Loaded, renamed and saved as per your advice and it’s still there after shutting down and restarting

RE: Pretty PLA V 4, how?

This unbelievably confusing, when importing the Pretty Profile as above everything changed to Pretty PLA..... I'm confused what happens when you want to change the nozzle diameter and quality setting?
