Prebuilt order, approx 5 months old. issues on x Axis

Hi does anyone have any suggestions on this?  I've been doing few prints here and there fine, then my daughter did a couple of custom designs via fusion 360 for her school work which caused some issues, i was able to print the standard whistle fine yesterday but today i can't even get a single print to work, we've tried re-calibrating, cleaning nossle, doing a few different things but now completely lost as to whats the problem or how to fix as this was ordered prebuilt. Video below, tried reddit for help first but not getting much reply.

Have you tried Lubricating the Smooth Rods?
It looks like the bearings are jamming when the X axis moves to the right.
Smear a little of the Prusa grease ontot he smooth rods, move the extruder to the right and smooth some more grease on the smooth rods to the left of the extruder, then try moving the extruder side to side by hand and see if it all loosens up...    if that works, repeat on the Y axis smooth rods and try another print.        It would be a good idea to  lube the Z axis smooth rods too, but you can't run the Z axis up and down by hand...

good luck, Joan

Thanks, thats really helpful i'll give that a try.  I dont actually have the prusa grease to hand at the moment (will order some) can any grease be ued in the meantime? Someone else mentioned the belt tension may be an issue? Is there any way to determine if its the bearings jamming or the belt tension? As it was a prebuilt order, i would hate to mess about with something that was already perfect and cause more problems then i need to deal with!!

Any light machine oil (sewing machine or 3in1) will do in a pinch, you just need a single drop near the bearing seals, then move the carriage across it slowly to get the oil under the end seals.

Light oil with PTFE inside you can use for the rods, first clean with alcohol, then use the oil, you have to do this often so the rods keep going smooth.

Ok, so I'm having an absolute headache with this at the moment and getting the printer back to functioning.

I've followed the advice in this thread.  I also realized that the X-axis belt was quite loose so I tightened this up using the knowledge base advice. And recalibrated.

Thereafter the first layer was not sticking properly as per before.  So I had to perm live adjusted the Z reading. which worked.

But now the problem is thermal runaway.  This happens a few seconds into the 2nd layer when printed the standard Prusa whistle. So the head will heat up to 215, on the first layer it will go up to 221 ish slowly incrementing by 1.  Then on the second layer, the fan kicks in and goes into overdrive and you can clearly hear it working hard.  And the head decreases in hear down to about 180-175 and the thermal runway error happens.

Can anyone help with this? I am completely lost? I've only done a few prints on this printer and it was working perfectly prior to this.

@stanfordselect

check that the part fan is not directing air directly onto the Heat block

Try reducing the fan speed. or use a heatblock Sock to reduce the cooling effect on the heatblock

Check the voltage of your powersupply, make sure it is 24volts for a mk3  (12 volts for a Mk1, Mk2 or Mk2.5) if the voltage is low, you can adjust it, using a trimmer pot, under the plastic cover over the connectors on the powersupply

regards Joan

Don't use the Prusa grease tube on the your rods. That is for internal lubrication of the bearings when you have them out.

Only use a light oil on the rods, and mostly as a test to see if you need to disassemble and lubricate properly. I keep mine clean and dry.
