PINDA Sensor failing after ~5 minutes, but no wire motion
Hi All,
I've probably put less than 5 kg of filament through my printer, but ran into an issue with my PINDA sensor recently.
When I turn the printer on, the LED will turn on and I can test the PINDA sensor with a piece of metal. It's changing the bit in the sensor settings. However, after a few minutes, the sensor will go off and not turn back on unless I let the printer sit off for ~24 hours. The weird parts are that:
- If the sensor isn't working, and I turn the printer off for ~24 hours, it will reliably come back if I turn it back on. it will then reliably turn off after being on for 5 minutes.
- This is completely invarient of me messing with wires - if I move the wire harness around, it neither will turn the light on if its off or turn it off if its on. no amount of wiggling can get the sensor to blink.
- Nothing in particular (moving the axes, wiggling wires, heating the print head, starting a calibration) seems to cause the printer to shut off, but it will reliably do so. Nothing seems to reset it besides just coming back 24 hrs later. if I turn it off for 5-15 minutes, I can sometimes get the light to blink on before shutting off.
Any thoughts of something this could be besides just the PINDA sensor?

Sounds like you got a new printer. Please contact PR online support. They will guide you through testing procedure and provide a replacement, if needed.

To clarify, I've had the printer for over a year, so out of warranty. (I moved a while back and had to put it in storage). worked fine after that.
I was curious if anyone was familiar with any other failure modes besides wire fatigue: board failure, EMFs, I'm not sure. It just doesn't seem consistent with any fatigued wires I've seen. I used to do a lot of electromechanical repair work and got decent at teasing out wiring issues.

In this case it's easier to replace the PINDA. Otherwise you will keep searching for bad cable/contact..

If I'm buying the PINDA.. any other spare parts you recommend stocking up on?

Part cooling fan, thermistor (both), heater element, bed cable, sheet
You can source this parts from third party vendors, but this are the ones which might potentially fail over time because of regular usage.
