It caused some pretty severe scratches all over the bed, and I'm not sure if I can still use this bed. Is this a big problem? Is it worth attempting to fix or is the damage too all over the place?

The glustik is water soluble.  Dawn disk soap and hot water rinses it off in seconds.

Looks like your aversion to water has cost you a PEI sheet.   If those really are gouges, you can try wet sanding to smooth the surface, but I doubt you can get it right again.

You can remove glue stick residue with hot water, then use acetone to refresh PEI surface.

I tried soaking it in different temperatures of water for hours and it had no effect, nothing I did but scraping it off had any effect. Believe me, using a scraper was not my first thought.

How did you find glustik that is NOT water soluble?  It's mostly made for kids in school so it washes out of clothes, is non-toxic, and very very easy to clean up.  But there are permanent varieties, so you must have been using something like those.  An expensive mistake. Ouch!

Yet, even most of the permanent sticks are washable ...

Looking at the picture, it seems you removed the PEI sheet. Is this what you did?

He's got a point, you'd have had to do that to actually remove paint like is shown. So I think you removed the actual PEI from your sheet, not just the glue.

[re: removing PEI]

Well, at least that would explain why the 'glue' was so tough to remove.

Sheet

That seems to be the textured steel sheet? At least the text on there corresponds to the textured sheet I have. The PEI sticker one has a different text layout on mine.

But why use glue stick at all on that if it is the textured sheet?

If those are actual scratches, then I would say that it doesn't work anymore. Buy a new one.

And in the future, just clean the sheet with IPA (not water) from time to time (I clean it once every two weeks or so). Certainly do not use acetone on it. Do not use glue stick for PLA or PETG.

Let print finish and let it cool on the bed. After a while there will be a crackling sound and the printed thing is loose on the bed. Don't try to pry it off while the sheet is hot as it could damage the sheet.

And never, ever use a steel scraper on the sheets, either the PEI sticker one or the textured sheet. There is simply no need for that on the MK3.
