Need help completing assembly of 3D printer (Austin, TX)

I purchased a Prusa 13 kit for my 12 year old grandson in December 2019.  Our 18 year old grandson was in town and helped him assemble most everything, before returning to Denver.  We live in Austin Texas and need help installing the Fil intent holder and programming it.  I have tried reaching out to engineering students and high school students without success.  Is there someone that can help (either in Austin or via Zoom)?  I would really like to help him complete this project so that he can learn how to use it, but it is way out of my skill set!  Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the Prusaforum!
I live in Vienna, Austria and unfortunately I cannot help you on site. Since English is not my native language, I ask: what is a "Fil intent holder"?

Thank you so much for your response!  I’m texting with my grandson and he told me incorrectly.  It is the filament holder that needs to be installed.

Hello Caroleedwards,

maybe you can specify your problem a little more detailed?

What do you mean with "Fil intend holder"?

And what do you want to program? During assembly it´s not neccessary to program anything, even after assembly it´s not the case.

Maybe you can refer to the manual where you struggle (e.g. 5. E-axis assembly, Step 17).

Thanks

I’m sorry, I’m getting the information from my 12 year old grandson.  Apparently, the only step remaining is installing the filament holder.  Once that is done, is it ready to print or do I need to download software?  I need to go get the printer (they live nearby), so that I can see for myself and better explain or send photos.  I appreciate any help!

@caroleedwards

Installing the filament spool holder shouldn´t be a big deal.

When the printer is assembled, you have to do some "pre-flight" check and calibration.

There is an video from Prusa which explains this:

https://www.prusa3d.com/new-user-mk3/

With the printer delivered is an SD-Card, there are some prepared objects you can print preinstalled.

More information you also could find here:

https://www.prusa3d.com/3dhandbookMK3S

Concerning the software:

For your first print you can use the gcode-files on the SD-card.

But after you have had your first prints, you should go the next steps:

Install the software  Prusa Slicer on your PC.

Install the current firmware on your printer.

Create your own designs using an 3D-CAD software.

But first, make it work and then step-by-step.

Sorry, just forget the initial issue:

The assembly of the spool holder is descriped in chapter 8 (electronics assembly), step 40, you can find here:

https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/8-electronics-assembly_34416#36080

Or send an photo to see where the problem is located.

Well, since I just activated my account, and that last post was my first post, I cannot send messages yet.  Google says I just need to post a few times, then I should be able to send you a message.

@troylouwerse

as far as i know you must have posted at least 10 times to send messages. This is probably to prevent spam...

It's only five posts before you can send messages.  @joan.t reached out to me to let me know.

I'm able to send messages now, and I sent one to @caroleedwards.  Still waiting to hear back.

I can't do zoom but will follow and provide help as you need it.  I would post images to the thread and ask questions.  The instructions on the Prusa site are quite good.
