Mk3s X rod scored

Hi can any one give me any idea how long the X rods and bearings should last.

printer is 11 months old, used every day for a bout 4 hours, but recently with the Covid 19 thing, it has been pushed very hard

printer was running fast for about 18 hours a day for 6 weeks doing PETG

now that has come to a end for me . I can get back to my normal printing.

today i noticed it was squeaking ,on the top X rod, so put some lithium grease on them, did not think anything was wrong.

still making squeaking, so cleaned it off . while cleaning it. i can feel a small grove in the rod.

my plan is to change it when i can order one, but for now i am going to polish it on my lathe, change out the bearing  which i have a spare.

my main question is what is the life span?

will it have a impact on quality?

When you replace your bearing, make sure you pack it properly with grease. Grease on the rod is no substitute.

Rather than polishing the rod, I would suggest just making sure the replacement bearing balls don't line up with the groove.

You definitely don't want to change the rod diameter.

A year under heavy use sounds pretty good. You won't see loss of accuracy so much as crashes due to binding.

Hi thanks for the reply.

I have never seen any reports of life span of rods and bearings, i hadn't thought that it would be worn that much.

Yes i have paked the new bearing with lithium grease, all back together and running very happy.

Sounds much better now.

Think i will get some spare rods in my next orders

The cr10s  has done the same amount of work, but has wheels. Still smooth and  did not need any maintenance
