MK3S+ Started beeping LOUDLY

After printing from SD card with no issues, I decided to rearrange my area and print straight from my PC.  Seemed like a good idea at the time.  I installed Pronterface, and it works OK.  Except - Now the printer beeps loudly and consistently at various steps in the process, especially during warmup.

I disconnected the cable to print from SD again, but the beeping remains.  I've tried the X reset, shutting it off and on, but no joy.

What do I need to do to get back to normal?  Even it means printing from SD only.  Perhaps reflashing the printer?

Thanks much

AAAAARGHHH - It's the UPS, not the printer.  When the spool heater fires up at the same time as the bed heater, it overloads.

Sorry for the grief.  My hearing is non-directional. I actually saw the light on the UPS blinking different colors in synch with the beeps.  Then I got under the table and could tell.

No idea why the sound changed in the first place however, if you go into the LCD Menu there is a “sound” setting in the “settings” menu.

Sound - Loud / Once / Silent / Assist

Maybe try the various options and see if one restores the original value.

Best of luck.

PC not gonna work.

Move to raspberry pi and Octoprint - printing from a PC is a frustrating lesson (too many go-to-sleeps, and your print is ruined).

I recommend removing the control panel cover and putting a piece of tape over the hole on the top of the beeper.  That solves the ear splitting problem.  Now, you can make it beep how you want and it won't pierce your ear drums.  Oh, and put the control panel back together when you are done.

I now add the "open cover, add tape" to every MK3S+ printer that I build.    It's over 150 db - it will ruin your hearing.

Thanks for the heads up on the pi and Octoprint. I've been at it only about 6 months, but have been quite happy with it.  Until now.  It never used to beep like that.  I reflashed the firmware, set Sound to Silent ( and every other setting as well) .  Doesn't make any difference.  Starts of with an ascending wail, then sounds like morse code mid print, with more wailing.

I wear a cochlear implant, and the sound is absolutely debillitating.

If I remove the beeper (unsolder it), will it have any affect on the operation?

Thanks

Did that, no difference at any setting.  Reflashed, disconnected PC, printing from SD card as originally, but still get all the beeps.

If I unsolder  the beeper will it have any negative effects on other circuitry?

Thanks

What size UPS have you got,
What items have you got connected to your UPS?
what sort of UPS is it. The three major types of UPS system configurations are online double conversion, line-interactive and offline (also called standby and battery backup).
How old is the UPS?
Has the UPS ever run flat?
Has it ever worked properly?

Yikes! Glad you discovered the problem! Sorry for your pain!

I will echo @dan-rogers suggestion re pi and octoprint. I set this up because I didn’t want to print from my laptop due to all the known issues and I got tired of the sd card shuffle. The ability to send a thumbnail pic of your model to the printer along with the g-code makes finding the file you want to print quick and easy.

As an additional benefit, it saves lots of fiddling with the scroll knob and LCD screen for things like pre-heat, axis moves, etc. I'm thinking of adding a pi camera to the setup and ditching my ip cam. The quality of the newer HQ camera is reported to be very good.

I haven’t tried to mobile octodash app yet as without an integrated camera I’m at a loss for its usefulness. Looking forward to tinkering about and learning more.

Good luck.

Hilarious. I just discovered the exact same problem myself. Everything is in a closet so it was hard to hear where the beep is coming from. Yep...UPS
