MK3S not recovering from crash

I was printing a fairly tall object with my new MK3S (bought assembled) when it started acting up and the LCD said it crashed and asked to continue. When I said yes it started trying to print a few inches behind where it had been. Now when I try to print it tries to do the auto leveling but fails and gets into some kind of endless non-printing loop.

I've tried (standard) resetting and cycling power and unplugging and plugging it back in, to no avail. What is needed here, please?

RE: MK3S not recovering from crash

it sounds like one of the x/y axis is binding so the printer can't find the end stop - with the power off make sure both x and y axis move freely from end to end. likely problems are filament garbage caught in one of the belts/pulleys or bad linear bearings
