Loss of calibration?

Hello, I have a MK3s kit that I built 6 months ago.  All had been well until today.  I printed yesterday with no issues, and now today it is not functioning correctly, and will not recalibrate.  If I try to do a PINDA probe adjustment (powered off of course), I cannot move the x-axis to the left without an extreme amount of resistance, but, moving it to the right goes very smoothly (this resistance is NOT being caused by the extruder tip touching the bed, as it exhibits the same resistance with the extruder raised several centimeters above the heatbed).  The band seems to be properly tensioned and is not jumping on the teeth of the gears.  I had tried recalibrating before adjusting the PINDA, and the extruder would crash into the heatbed during the Z calibration, bending it downwards, and I immediately canceled the calibration, and on a prior attempt to recalibrate, the X movements would be very noisy and would stop right in the middle of the heatbed instead of going all the way to the left.  No skipping of the belt can be seen on the x-axis.  As I am still a learner, I really don't know what else to do.  Can someone suggest where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks!
