Layers shifting on X

Hi, when I print larger objects I have problem with layer shifting (about 5 mm). Sometimes printer detect CRASH, but sometimes it just print and the next layer prints displaced (without CRASH). I have MK3 on NORMAL MODE, material PLA+ and slice with PrusaSlicer (same problem with CURA G-CODE). Small prints are OK.I also had a couple of times when the printer wanted to start printing from the right corner.

Usual suspects include:

1.  Are the screws on your X motor properly tightened (pulley screws).

2. Is the belt correctly tightened (you can't do this by eyeball or using the control panel - download the gcode and print the belt tension gauge.)

3. Are your X carriage bearings over-squeezed?  Loosen the back plate on the x carriage axis.

4.  Are the zip ties on the wire bundle on the back of the extruder properly positioned?

I would add one more to Dan's list:

What infill pattern are you using?

Some patterns such as grid have lines that cross within one layer. This can lead to little pile-ups at the intersection points, in particular if you have slight overextrusion, which in turn can lead to the nozzle catching at those pile-ups.

1-ok

2-ok

3-I will check this, but it works on small objects.

4-ok

I use Triangle grid (sometimes Gyroid).

I'm not saying it's definitely the infill pattern but check out this article: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/infill-patterns_177130/

Triangles is also an infill pattern with lines that cross in one layer, and I've seen that cause issues way too many times.

Thank you! Not clear to me if it also can be used for MK2.5.

Also works with the Mini. Should be part of each kit!

Is Prusa PETG absolutely needed or can Prusa PLA do the job? Also is the Prusa brand needed. I'm asking because I don't have PETG laying around and I don't want to order a full spool just for the tension meter...

Needs to be Prusament PETG - PLA will not work correctly

To read the tension correctly, needs to be printed in Prusament PETG, not just Prusa PETG and not other brand PETG.  The pattern is tuned for Prusament - which prints hotter and has different characteristics than other brands.

I ran comparison tests to verify this need several months back - they all come out looking like the gauge, but they all read differently in the tension meter part - so to get the desired outcome (a working printer), you can only print that pattern in PRUSAMENT PETG

Thanks Dan! Will be too costly for me and I even don't know if the tension is the reason for my printing problem.
