Just ordered MK3 kit with multicolor option. Have software questions.

Hi,
I just ordered the newest MK3 and ordered the multi-color option too as I am in the US. It won't be here for a while so I was wondering what would be the best software to start learning to get a head start while I am waiting. I am totally new to 3D Printers but am pretty good with a computer so I want some options that will help me get going as a beginner, but also look into the intermediate stuff too in case the beginner stuff is too easy. Any suggestions on what good beginner and intermediate and also advanced software to look at so i can start studying and learning? 😀
Thanks,
dave

It has some eccentricities but Fusion 360 is probably a good choice. Decent mix of features and ease of use with a ton of tutorials on YouTube. Best part? It's free.

Yeah, it's a little weird. I've yet to meet anyone (myself included) who hasn't gotten confused by that.

What you have to do is download the trial version. The first time it runs, it'll bring up an activation box that lets you activate the product or install it as a trial copy. There should be an option there that allows you to activate it as a hobbyist. You'll need an Autodesk account in order to do that.

If you'd like a basic tutorial to get you started, Angus of Maker's Muse fame has a solid tutorial that walks you through designing a maker coin using F360: . I highly recommend modeling a maker coin for a few reasons: 1) it can help familiarize you with the basics of your CAD software of choice, 2) it gives you a nice, small object to test out new filaments with, and 3) it's a nice personalized trinket that you can swap with other enthusiasts. 🙂

Hi Spectere,
I figured out how to get the license set up here:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-activate-start-up-or-educational-licensing-for-Fusion-360.html

So I am all set on that. 😉 Thanks. And I just started watching the video on the Maker Coin and that is going to help out getting me started with Fusion 3D. Thanks. Going back to the video now... 😀

David, did you order your MK3 as a kit or pre-built? If you bought the kit did you buy it and MMU 2.0 in one order or two? If you ordered as one it will be a bit cheaper if you separate them. You can give your order number to CHAT and they can separate them.
The extra cost comes from IMPORT TAX that will be asked for when it's delivered. If you keep your cost below $800. If you ordered the pre-built then you can check if there's a difference between IMPORT TAX on the MK3 only and with the MMU 2.0.
If you purchased a pre-built MK3 then at $999 it's already over the $800 limit. I would check into the tax difference between $999 and 1299 or higher if you ordered anything else.

In the mean time whether you ordered a kit or pre-built you can get acquainted with the printer by reviewing the documents in these links.

Main PRUSA website: https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/
Browse the different tabs Home to Blog
Under Support\HELP\Assembly Instructions\English\01 "forMK3 kit"
These "How to Guides 1-9" will show you how the printer is built and put back together after a repair. The OctoPrint for Original MK3 is above these nine guides.

The main difference between the guides that are sent with the printer and the online version is that you'll find other user comments under each step of the online guide. I used both, mainly the online guide as it gets updates.

Back under the PRUSA Support page you have the Drivers & Firmware section for downloads. Updating your firmware as soon as you get it started is a great idea.
They have a materials guide if you aren't sure on filament.

If you haven't already you can search Youtube for 3d printer videos. If you add PRUSA MK3 to your search you can review all that others have done while you're waiting on your printer.

david,
I ordered the kit and a few hours later I read somewhere about the updated MMU and the shipping dates so I split my order to get my printer sooner. I didn't know about the import tax. So do I pay the DHL driver when it gets here and if so, how much is it?? Or being it is $749 for the kit, there is no tax??

Thanks for the links. I have already looked at the manual for the kit just to know where it was for further reading. I will definitely update the firmware when I get it built and get off to a good start. I will check out the filaments guide too. I have been researching that a lot and there are plenty of filaments to choose from. Wow! I hope I only need about 3 types. 😆

Been watching a lot of youtube videos already and there are plenty of those to go around. Subscribed to a few channels already too.
Thanks for the info,
dave

No if you split the order and the cost is below $800 then there's no DUTY payment.
