I realise I'm stating the obvious but if you're streaming data from Octoprint the only way to "manually stop a print ...." is through the OctoPrint GUI. If the printer powers down, Octoprint will lose connection and give up.

@towlerg

That is true.  I think we can pause in Octoprint and just leave the printer on.  I have never tried this, but you could cool off the hotend and bed and then reheat it when you start again.

If you use Octoprint you need to overcome the problem of 1) the head remaining attached to the print and starting to move on resume while everything is cold.

You can try to re-heat the bed and extruder on restart and maybe moving the head away right after pausing.

Octoprint has a custom GCode attached to Pause, so you can lift Z or anything else. You still have the problem that once the bed cools the part will "pop off".

I can remember where I leached my Pause GCode from but

{% if pause_position.x is not none %}
G91 ; relative XYZ
M83 ; relative E
G1 Z+50 E-5 F4500 ; retract filament, move Z slightly up
M82 ; absolute E
G90 ; absolute XYZ
G1 X0 Y0 ; move to a safe rest position
{% endif %}

@jsw

It really is impressive how it picks up again. Excellent design.
